Belkin partners with AccessPlus for Africa

Accessories and networking vendor Belkin has struck an African partnership with logistics partner AccessPlus to help build its reach in the fast-growing region. AccessPlus will be working with Belkin to market and sell the vendor’s full product range in markets such as Nigeria, Kenya, Ethiopia, Tunisia, Morocco and Algeria. Read full story

Westcon builds Latin America presence with Afina

VAD outfit Westcon has boosted its presence in Latin America, Iberia and North Africa, snapping up Afina Group through its purchase of GLS Software and its subsidiaries. Focusing on distribution of security and datacentre solutions, Afina’s vendor portfolio includes VMware, Citrix, Riverbed, and Symantec - as well as many firms currently among Westcon’s portfolio in other regions. Phoenix picks up Kaspersky accolade

African distributor Phoenix Software has been named Kaspersky Lab’s emerging markets retail distribution partner of the year – the second year in a row that Phoenix has picked up the award. Phoenix picked up the accolade at security solutions vendor Kaspersky’s recent emerging markets partner conference held in Sicily, Italy. The award saw Phoenix up against distributors from the Middle East, Latin America, rest of Africa and Russia – all part of Kaspersky’s emerging markets territory. Read full story

Mitsumi hosts Toshiba event in Ethiopia

African distributor Mitsumi held a Toshiba channel event in Ethiopia earlier this month. The event, which took place on the 5th June in Addis Ababa, saw more than 150 channel executives attend to hear more about Toshiba’s latest products in the PC market segment. During the event, Mitsumi outlined the Toshiba product roadmap to channel partners and discusses solution selling and go-to-market strategies. Read full story

Hardware vendor DTK is ready to meet with potential channel partners from across the wider Middle East and Africa (MEA) region (and beyond) this week. DTK is exhibiting at DISTREE Middle East and has set its sights on identifying additional partners in the GCC and Africa. Strong PC market figures for MEA

Research house IDC has revealed strong PC shipment figures for the Middle East and Africa region during the first quarter of 2012. IDC claims that PC shipments were up 13.5% year-on-year at 6 million units for the first quarter, driven by strong demand for notebooks, which compensated for a small decline in desktop shipments. Citrix appoints MEA channel manager

IT solutions supplier Citrix has appointed Sarah Mews Sultani as channel development manager for the Middle East and Africa (MEA) region. Sultani will focus on the management of Citrix’s key partners in UAE and Kuwait. In her new role Sultani will be based in Citrix’s regional head office in Dubai to drive channel marketing activities in the region. She reports to Noman Qadir, regional channel manager for Middle East, North Africa and Turkey. Read full story

Emerging markets distribution specialist Asbis has picked up channel business development awards from components giant Intel. The two awards recognised Asbis’ performance in the Middle East, Turkey and Africa region as well as the Russia and CIS territory. South African distributor Esquire Technologies has added OCZ to its vendor portfolio. Esquire will distribute OCZ’s solid state drives (SSDs) to its reseller base across South Africa.
