The ‘EMEA Channel Academy: 2014 Awards’ will take place in conjunction with DISTREE Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA), the region’s leading annual event for the volume ICT and consumer electronics (CE) channel. Drummond promoted to MEA role at Acer

Hardware vendor Acer has named David Drummond as VP of its Middle East and Africa (MEA) operation. Drummond, who was country manager for Southern Africa, assumes the new MEA role immediately. Drummond’s promotion comes on the back of the departures of both Amin Mortazavi and Ali Nemati from Acer. Mortazavi held the role of VP MEA while Nemati served as general manager at Acer Middle East. Pinnacle Africa picks up Seagate rights

Pinnacle Africa, one of Southern Africa’s largest distributors, has been appointed as an official distribution partner for Seagate. Pinnacle will distribute Seagate internal hard drives, reflecting its growing role in the components distribution channel. Pinnacle claims that it is an exciting time in the storage segment focused around developing areas such as solid state storage, cloud computing and mobile computing. Read full story

Promate signs SmartCity retail deal in Libya

Lifestyle technology brand Promate has signed an agreement with Libyan retailer SmartCity. The two companies hope that the agreement will help accelerate the development of the gadget market in Libya. SmartCity claims that it is one of the first structured retail chains for consumer electronics products to emerge in Libya. Read full story

Vendor giant HP has announced a series of enhancements to its global PartnerOne programme. The HP PartnerOne changes include new HP PartnerOne specialisations in key growth areas, new competitive rebates as part of the compensation model, the creation of role-based certifications, a consistent membership structure and an improved partner portal navigation experience. Sebastian takes on MMD and AOC role

MMD, the company that markets and sells Philips monitors, and AOC, the company that markets and sells AOC’s range of products, has appointed Vineeth Sebastian as its new regional sales director for Middle East and Africa (MEA). In his new role Sebastian will focus on growing the Middle East and Africa markets, overseeing MMD’s and AOC’s retail and business channels, working closely with existing and potential customers. MMD and AOC are both subsidiaries of TPV which is the world’s largest display manufacturer. Read full story

Tarsus and Platinum Micro to merge

Two of South Africa’s largest distributors, Tarsus Technologies and Platinum Micro, will officially merge their operations on October 1st 2013. Both companies form part of the MB Technologies Group. The merger takes place ahead of MB Technologies’ planned December 2013 move to a new 30,000 square metre warehouse and distribution facility in Waterfall Commercial District, Woodmead, Gauteng, South Africa. Aptec announces Kaspersky distribution deal

Distributor Aptec has struck a deal to add Kaspersky business-focused products to its portfolio. The agreement will see Aptec, part of global distribution giant Ingram Micro, promote Kaspersky solutions across the GCC, Levant, North East Africa and West Asia. The two companies will look to take advantage of increased cyber security spending across the region. Read full story

Esquire extends Geeko tablets range

South Africa-based IT distributor Esquire Technologies is extending its range of own brand Geeko tablets, adding new products aimed at toddlers and children up to the age of 12 years. The announcement follows the successful launch of the Geeko range in June 2012 and the addition of new models in the first quarter of 2013. Read full story

Youssef joins Promate from Genius

Peripherals and accessories vendor Promate has appointed Jihad Youssef as general manager of its Middle East and Africa (MEA) branch office. In his new role, Youssef will lead Promate’s sales operations in the region. Youssef joins Promate from rival vendor Genius where he held the position of general manager MEA. Read full story
