Indian tablet sales climb in second quarter

Research house IDC reckons that tablet shipments in India hit 860,000 in the second quarter of 2014, up 9% compared to the first quarter of the year. IDC claims that the latest results indicate ‘early signs of recovery’ for the product category after a tough six months. Read full story

Major brands form IoT consortium

Major technology brands have joined forces to establish the Open Interconnect Consortium (OIC), dedicated to ensuring interoperability between the billions of devices that will make up the Internet of Things (IoT) in the years ahead. Atmel, Broadcom, Dell, Intel, Samsung and Wind River have all signed up as members of the OIC. Read full story

Brazil offers channel growth opportunities

Research house GfK’s latest analysis of the ICT, telecoms and consumer electronics market in Brazil indicates that the total market value grew 23.6% year-on-year in the first quarter of 2014 to hit US$12.84 billion. GfK is an Event Partner at DISTREE Brazil & Latin America 2014, which takes place from October 22nd to 24th in Salvador, Brazil. Tablet sales rise sharply in Mexico

Tablet sales in Mexico hit 1.1 million units in the first quarter of 2014, up 36% year-on-year, according to research firm IDC. The tablet size of choice was 7” and 8” models, which accounted for 69% of products sold in the first quarter. IDC attributed the popularity of these sizes to their affordability. Read full story

Brazilian IT distribution to grow 7% in 2014

Brazilian distributor association Abradisti projects that the Brazilian IT distribution channel will grow 7% year-on-year in 2014 to hit an annual value of US$14.2 billion. This resurgent growth comes on the back of a 2% increase in 2013 when the total IT distribution market value reached US$13.3 billion. Read full story
