Smart home revenues to hit US$100 billion in 2020

As big numbers go, it is certainly one guaranteed to get your attention. The numbercrunchers at Juniper Research reckon that global consumer spending on smart home services including entertainment, health, energy and home automation, will reach US$100 billion per annum by 2020. Distribution to drive 3D printer sales

Research house CONTEXT believes that the involvement of the US$135 billion per annum global IT distribution channel could create a tipping point for 3D printer sales. “While the channels for sales of industrial and professional 3D printers are in many cases long established, the new breed of desktop 3D printers seem better partnered with IT distribution routes to market” said Chris Connery, VP of global analysis at CONTEXT. Android dominates Brazilian smartphone market

The latest research from Kantar WorldPanel ComTech has revealed that Android is the dominant operating system for smartphones in Brazil, accounting for 89% of all devices sold in the three months ending July 2015. Strong demand for smartphones in Brazil has seen a number of new brands enter the market in 2015 and also created an increased appetite for a wide range of mobile accessories. Read full story

Argentina shows solid signs in second quarter

Research house GfK’s most recent TEMAX analysis of consumer technology market in Argentina claims that the total market value grew 20.2% year-on-year to hit US$2.33 billion in the second quarter of 2015. Major domestic appliances and IT products were the main growth drivers, according to GfK. Read full story

Mobile LTE connections to soar in Latin America

LTE connections in Latin America reached 11.76 million in 2014, according to a report published by Dataxis. This figure will have increased dramatically by 2018, reaching 187.8 million connections, according to the research firm. Data includes combined LTE connections in the region’s seven largest markets: Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Mexico, Peru and Venezuela. Read full story
