Sky secures Middle East PNY distribution rights

Sky Electronics has signed a Middle East distribution deal with PNY – an exclusive partner for Nvidia’s Quadro graphic cards in the region. Sky, which operates as a distributor and assembler, reckons that its latest agreement will help the company increase its visibility and expand its geographic footprint in the region. Read full story

Samsung teams with Itec for MFD In Southern Africa

Samsung has handed Itec exclusive distribution rights in Southern Africa for its SCX-6122 multi function device (MFD). Itec’s international footprint stretches from Southern Africa to the United Kingdom, with 47 regional offices in South Africa alone. The company represents a number of major vendors including Konica-Minolta, Lexmark and Samsung. Read full story

Ingram Micro EMEA names new CFO

Distribution giant Ingram Micro has appointed Paul Lilley as senior VP and chief financial officer (CFO) for its EMEA operation effective immediately. In his new role Lilley will report to Jay Forbes, executive VP and president of Ingram Micro EMEA. Lilley is a seasoned financial executive with more than 20 years experience. Read full story

Asbis reports third quarter figures

Emerging markets distributor Asbis reckons that its ‘solid foundation’ will allow it to ride out the current global financial crisis and emerge even stronger. The confident claim came as Asbis reported third quarter sales for 2008 up 15.1% year-on-year to US$427.3m. Despite the sales growth, third quarter net profits almost halved year-on-year to US$3.2m – an after-tax profit margin of just 0.7%. Read full story

Uplogix adds South African distributor

Secure remote management (SRM) solutions provider Uplogix has signed up Navix as its first distributor in South Africa. Navix has already started working on projects with managed service providers, financial services companies and telecoms players. Navix has trained up members of staff on Uplogix solutions and is also providing demonstration kit to its channel in South Africa. Read full story

Top channel executives confirm XXL attendance

Esprinet continues Spanish centralisation

Esprinet has continued the centralisation of its Spanish operation according to the third quarter results statement from the Southern European distribution outfit. The process, which began in early 2008, has seen Esprinet shut down satellite warehouses in Spain, reduce headcount in the country by 100 and reassign some front and back-office functions from Bilbao to the company’s new centralised operation in Zaragoza. All systems go for CT Computers

South East Europe IT powerhouse ComTrade Group has unified all of its distribution units under one common brand name. The seven distribution operations within the group will now all trade under the CT Computers brand. Also Group pulls the plug on Poland

European distribution outfit Also Group is pulling the plug on its Polish subsidiary. Established in 2005, Also Poland has not seen a significant improvement in its market position and has not achieved sustainable profitability. Also plans to pull out of Poland by the end of 2008 with the closure impacting 70 employees. The company is also evaluating the future of its struggling Swedish unit with various options on the table including closure. Read full story

EMC signs Al-Jammaz VAD deal in Saudi Arabia

Storage giant EMC has bolstered its distribution channel in Saudi Arabia, signing a VAD deal with Al-Jammaz Distribution. Under the terms of the deal, Al-Jammaz becomes an EMC Velocity² VAD and will address customer demand for networked storage and information management software in the Kingdom. Read full story
