Senior European executives quit Westcon

Two of Westcon’s senior European executives are leaving the networking distribution outfit. Barry Shakespeare, executive VP of Westcon Group Europe has resigned and will exit the stage on January 30th 2009 (probably not pursued by a bear). European financial director Jon Toohey has also resigned after holding the position for three years and will be replaced by Richard Hodgetts, previously Westcon Group’s UK finance director. Arrow ECS extends Citrix rights

Arrow ECS has signed a distribution agreement with Citrix to cover the markets of Belgium and Luxembourg. The new deal builds on an existing agreement between the two companies and means that Arrow ECS now distributes Citrix in a dozen European markets. Read full story

Online rebrands as Westcon Middle East

Middle East value-added networking outfit Online Distribution has rebranded itself as Westcon Middle East, as networking channel giant Datatec looks to bring some brand cohesion to its sprawling business empire. Both Online Distribution and Westcon are owned by South African-quoted Datatec. The company also owns Comstor, which is itself a division of Westcon. Read full story

Aptec and 3Com plan SMB seminars

Aptec Distribution has announced plans to hold a series of workshops across the GCC alongside networking vendor 3Com. The seminars, which will be called ‘Switch to 3Com’, will focus on reaching out to resellers that sell into the small and medium business (SMB) end-user segment. Tech Data linked to ABC after Action’s announcement

The number of distribution players in the Polish IT market could reduce dramatically in the coming months. Warsaw-quoted IT distributor Action has announced plans to join forces with assembly and distribution outfits Vobis and PC Factory. Polish stock exchange newspaper Parkiet is also reporting that Tech Data plans to snap up an 80% stake in distributor ABC Data from MCI management. Parkiet claims that Ireneusz Dabrowski, CEO at Tech Data Poland, has confirmed the move. Read full story

Zycko lands LifeSize deal

European value-added distributor Zycko has struck a deal with LifeSize Communications, a high definition (HD) video communications solutions supplier. Under the terms of the deal, Zycko, which specialises in convergent storage and IP solutions, will provide LifeSize’s VAR community with HD communication systems. Read full story

BenQ eyes Eastern European potential

BenQ has pledged to continue its channel expansion in Central and Eastern Europe in 2009. The hardware vendor continues to identify the distribution partners that will enable it to build market share in specific countries throughout the region, opening up new channels to market for its expansive product portfolio.
