Toshiba lauds latest IDC figures for MEA

Notebook vendor Toshiba has claimed top spot in the third quarter IDC statistics for the Middle East and Africa (MEA), according to the vendor. Toshiba came top in terms of portable PC shipments for the quarter with 22.5% of the total market for notebooks, with the vendor achieving ’significant’ unit growth of 44.8% year-on-year.

Santosh Varghese, general manager computer systems division at Toshiba Gulf, said: “This great news is testament to our efforts in sustaining Toshiba’s high brand equity and further challenges us to continue creating value for our customers. We share this recognition with our valued channel partners across the region that contributed to our every success.”

The IDC figures showed Toshiba as the number one notebook vendor in the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Lebanon and Jordan. Toshiba reckons that its wide product range from entry-level computing devices through to medium and high end products contributed to its growth.

The vendor also believes that regular training of channel sales staff to ensure high-quality sales and a better buying experience for Toshiba customers helped propel it to the top of the market. The company also reckons that it is leading the way in monitoring product lifecycles, driving sellout and ensuring channel partners are stocking the latest products. Toshiba has increased its direct engagement with channel partners and continues to roll out programmes and activities to further strengthen its market presence in the region.
