BDL launches in Kuwait

by Stuart Wilson, Wednesday 18 June 2008

Middle East distribution house BDL has continued its regional expansion plan, announcing its entry into the fast-growing IT sector in Kuwait – the third largest market in the region according to the distributor. BDL’s Kuwait operation was formally launched by company president HH Prince Waleed Al Saud at an event in Kuwait attended by more than 150 representatives of the country’s IT channel community.

“We are here to replicate our success stories that we have experienced in Saudi Arabia and in Egypt. We are bringing our wealth of IT experience to Kuwait that is currently the third largest computer market in the region, with a high penetration of computer technology and ambitious plan for digital integration,” said HH Prince Waleed Al Saud.

“BDL is poised to take advantage of the growth potential that Kuwait offers. Broad base of resellers and evolving power retail segment will be our immediate focus. Eventually we will be interested to cater to corporate and government ICT needs as well. We shall use service infrastructure as a catalyst for growth,” he added.

BDL’s general manager Sunil Nair, commented on the launch: “From day one, we will have local sales and logistics and we will continue investing in this space. BDL will be addressing Kuwait’s ICT market from its own office set up in the city. We have also invested in state of the art technology to seamlessly integrate sales, finance and logistics with the channel for better services and expect our partners to benefit immensely.”

BDL’s vendor portfolio in Kuwait will include Dell commercial products, Asus notebooks, BenQ notebooks, US Robotics kit, HP branded optical disc drives as well as Lexmark and Swiss Travel products.

“We will address as many resellers as possible to emerge as a leading distribution entity and also to fulfil the market penetration expectation of the brands. This will be possible only by way of offering stocks locally. BDL has realised this and has therefore already set-up stocking points in UAE, KSA, Bahrain, Egypt and now Kuwait,” added Nair.

BDL has spread its business across GCC countries and Egypt within a span of few years. BDL claims that it is one of the fastest growing IT distributors in the Middle East with offices in KSA, Egypt, UAE and Bahrain. BDL sales hit more than more than US$143m last year to cement its status as the largest Saudi-based technology distributor.

BDL officially opened its Dubai office in late 2007. The Dubai office oversees BDL’s operation across the Levant, Iraq, Pakistan and the CIS states. BDL’s overall portfolio includes global, market-leading brands, such as: LG, Dell, AMD, Acer, Fujitsu-Siemens Computers, BenQ, Lexmark, Asus, and US Robotics. BDL also has offices in Riyadh, Cairo, and Manama, and it employs more than 300 employees.
