Elko secures Baltic MSI rights

by Stuart Wilson, Monday 16 June 2008

Eastern Europe and Baltic distribution outfit Elko has signed a new deal with MSI. Under the terms of the agreement, Elko will become an official MSI distributor in the Baltic market. While MSI components are currently available in the Baltic channel, Elko’s deal with the vendor means that additional product lines such as MSI notebooks will now arrive in the regional market.

Elko will offer the complete range of MSI notebooks including professional, gaming, entertainment, value and aesthetic models. Elko Group also recently revealed its sales for 2007 climbed 47% year-on-year to US$1.085billion positioning it as the first company in Latvia to surpass the one billion dollar sales mark.

Elko now has points of presence in 14 cities spanning nine countries. The company carries a portfolio of products from approximately 80 vendors including A-brands such as Acer, Intel, Seagate, Samsung, Sony and WD. The company employs just under 500 people.

In a recent interview with Bloomberg, Elko CFO Svens Dinsdorfs disclosed that the distributor could sell a stake to a private equity firm or carry out an IPO to raise additional funds to help finance the company’s rapid growth.
