DISTREE APAC completes fifth annual consumer tech channel event in Singapore

by Stuart Wilson, Friday 10 November 2017

DISTREE Asia Pacific (APAC) took place at the Grand Copthorne Waterfront Hotel in Singapore from 8th to 10th November 2017. This week’s event gathered more than 200 senior executives from consumer tech vendors, distributors, retailers and e-tailers in one place at one time. During the three-day event, exhibitors held pre-scheduled one-on-one meetings with buyers and senior channel executives from across the region. DISTREE APAC 2017 was supported by Event Partners GfK and IE Singapore; Content Partners CONTEXT, GfK, Quadmark and Sixthfactor; plus Media Partners VAR India and Channel APAC.

Christophe Painvin, Executive Director at DISTREE Events, said: “The 5th annual DISTREE APAC united the region’s consumer tech channel ecosystem. We want to thank all our participants at this year’s event – exhibitors, event partners, content partners, speakers and media.”

“We also want to express our gratitude to the 200-plus vendor, distributor and retailer executives who attended the event. By bringing together all the key stakeholders in the industry, we provided a wide range of business benefits for the entire consumer tech channel ecosystem,” he added.

The popular ‘60 Seconds to Convince Awards’ took place at DISTREE APAC, giving exhibitors the chance to deliver a one-minute pitch for their latest product. Live voting determined the winners in three categories: Best Product Design, Best Product Innovation and Best Presentation.

Bookeen picked up the Best Product Design award for its SAGA e-Reader, securing 54% of the final live vote. The Best Product Innovation award was won by Wonew for its Intelligent Selfie Stick, which collected 37% of the live votes cast. The Best Presentation award also went to Bookeen for its highly entertaining product pitch, securing an impressive 68% of the live vote.

More than 600 pre-scheduled one-one-one meetings were organised at DISTREE APAC using the event’s powerful web platform. Hundreds more meetings were arranged on site as delegates look to take full advantage of the business networking platform the event format provided. Distributors and key retailers from across the wider Asian region attended, giving exhibitors a cost-effective and efficient opportunity to promote themselves on a regional basis.

Commenting on the event, Erwan Le Meur, Senior Area Sales Manager at Bookeen, stated: “The event is highly effective and gave me access to qualified business prospects. I have achieved one year’s worth of business prospecting in an event that lasts just two days, in a region 10,000km from my office.”

“The event model implemented [at DISTREE APAC] is unique. Each pre-scheduled one-on-one meeting is pre-qualified and ensures that you only meet people that are interested in your products. I have met approximately 40 contacts from 10 countries,” he added.

John Lim Chin Yeun, Singapore General Manager at smart lock brand Igloohome, stated: “The event format is great because it provides us with a clear structure and meeting schedule before we arrive. The people I met knew the background of Igloohome and I had also researched them. It meant we could get straight down to discussing business at the event.”

DISTREE APAC offered all delegates a compelling mix of pre-scheduled meetings, keynote speeches, workshop sessions, awards and professional networking opportunities. Keynotes on virtual reality (VR), distributor transformation and consumer behaviour took place during DISTREE APAC. A new APAC Market Snapshots session saw distributors give updates on business conditions and market trends in specific countries, with presentations from Anyware from Australia, Rashi Peripherals from India and Leader Radio Tech from Hong Kong.

Painvin added: “DISTREE APAC is a premium hosted buyer event and is far removed from a traditional trade show. The pace of product innovation and the emergence of new brands makes APAC one of the most exciting regions in the world for consumer tech. With growing consumer demand and a huge population base, DISTREE APAC provides the ultimate channel development platform for tech brands.”

Exhibitors at DISTREE APAC 2017 covered the entire consumer tech product landscape, including high-growth product categories such as mobile devices, mobile accessories, smart home solutions, components, memory, connected devices and gaming products. Planning is already underway for DISTREE APAC 2018.

Channel APACwas an official Media Partner for regional technology and consumer electronics retail channel event DISTREE APAC, which took place November 8-10th in Singapore. Vendors, distributors and retailers requiring more information about DISTREE APAC 2018 can contact quoting code DAP18.
