INTERVIEW: Anthony Chow, igloohome

by Stuart Wilson, Saturday 6 May 2017

Smart home products will be displayed at this week’s DISTREE Middle East in Dubai. With hundreds of retail buyers confirmed to attend, the channel event can open a wealth of new business opportunities for vendors looking to expand in the Middle East. Smart lock solutions vendor igloohome is a confirmed exhibitor for the event. Channel EMEA caught up with Anthony Chow, CEO at igloohome, to get the inside track on the company’s plans.

Channel EMEA (CE): What are igloohome’s main products and solutions and why should retailers consider making them part of their product mix?

Anthony Chow (AC): We have created the igloohome Smart Deadbolt 02 and the igloohome Smart Keybox. These devices allow property owners to grant access to their properties remotely, via a mobile app. Our products will change the way access is managed.

CE:What are your three main reasons for attending DISTREE Middle East? What do you hope to achieve at the event?

AC: We would like to meet the following groups of people: potential distributors and retailers, partners, and even customers. We would like to get in touch with these groups of people and develop long-term relationships with them.

Our smart products are unique in that - unlike most other smart devices in the market - our products do not require a WiFi connection. This increases the reliability of the devices, and eliminates the worry of WiFi hacking.

CE: Do you have a structured retail channel programme? Do you offer a strong margin proposition to your retail partners?

AC: Yes we do. We ensure that our retail partners will benefit from strong margins. We have rolled out our products in other countries, such as Singapore, USA and Malaysia, and have received great feedback from our resellers and retailers. We are new to the market, and are currently actively looking for channel partners to help us bring our brand into the Middle East.

We are seeing a rising trend in the adoption of smart home and smart security systems in the Middle East region. And despite not having a distributor on the ground, we have been getting strong interest from inbound enquiries and customers purchasing straight from our online shop. The Middle East region now ranks amongst the top 10 markets that we ship to globally.

CE: How would you describe your overall go-to market approach in the Middle East market?

AC: We will be identifying a strong distributor to help us on the ground, and assist the distributor to build relevant partnerships with real estate people and property developers to win projects. We will also leverage on our existing relationships with global platforms like Airbnb to help the distributor drive our brand in the Middle East.

We are looking for distributors who love new and innovative technologies. Our products have been shipped to over 50 countries globally to great reviews, and we want to officially enter the Middle East and build a winning business together with local partners.
