Brightpoint bags exclusive HTC rights in UK

by Stuart Wilson, Friday 2 May 2008

Wireless device distributor Brightpoint has been awarded sole distributor status from HTC for the UK and Ireland markets. The agreement follows on from Brightpoint’s recent purchase of Hugh Symons’ mobile distribution business in the UK. HTC and Brightpoint previously entered into a wide-reaching global master distributor agreement in October 2007.

Steen Pedersen, president at Brightpoint Europe, said: "We are proud to have been chosen by HTC as the exclusive distributor for its products across the UK and Ireland. We believe that the strong working relationship HTC has with the Hugh Symons team combined with the knowledge and competencies from Brightpoint will be a powerful platform for helping HTC to continue the development of its business within the channel."

Paul Ghent, HTC’s executive director for UK and Ireland, added: "We are delighted to be working with Brightpoint, and at the same time, retaining the relationship we have with the Hugh Symons Telecom team in their new and strengthened position in the UK and Ireland. Our channel customers play a major role in our market success, and we are committed to building strong relationships with them through the new channel partner programme."

Founded in 1997, HTC designs, manufactures and markets innovative, feature rich smartphone and PDA phone devices. Since its establishment, HTC has pioneered new designs and product innovations, and launched state-of-the-art PDA Phones and smartphones for mobile operators and distributors in Europe, the US, and Asia. These machines are available as HTC devices and as products individually customized for operator and device partners.

Brightpoint is a global leader in the distribution of wireless devices and in providing customised logistic services to the wireless industry. In 2007, Brightpoint handled approximately 83 million wireless devices globally. Brightpoint’s services include distribution, channel development, fulfilment, product customisation, e-business solutions and other outsourced services.
