AirMagnet attracted to Westcon

by Stuart Wilson, Thursday 24 April 2008

Channel powerhouse Westcon Group has struck a distribution agreement covering Europe and the Middle East with AirMagnet, a global provider of intrusion detection and prevention systems for wireless networks. Westcon will carry AirMagnet’s entire product portfolio and will focus initially on channel sales in the French and Spanish markets.

AirMagnet’s tools help customers overcome and resolve wireless LAN deployment issues to minimise security risks while maximising performance and productivity, according to the vendor. With over 7,000 customers, AirMagnet’s security, performance and compliance solutions for wireless LANs are considered a standard tool for wireless LAN trouble shooting and analysis.

"WLAN deployments in enterprises are often difficult to plan, deploy and manage with the same granularity as their wired equivalents; security concerns and compliance issues have also served as a barrier to mass adoption in the workplace," commented Guy Koster, VP of Westcon Group’s technology solutions group.

"AirMagnet products are the enabling tools to overcome end user deployment, management and compliance challenges; we are very excited about the opportunities this new relationship will create for our customers."

Ian Schenkel, managing director EMEA at AirMagnet, added: "Two compelling factors make WLAN an exciting market to be in right now. First, the availability of 802.11n WLAN products put wireless on par with wired infrastructure; and second, enterprise adoption of WLAN remains below 20% in most markets.”

“Consequently, we believe that the market is set to develop substantially over the next 12 to 18 months. Our distribution agreement with Westcon will help to drive growth by enabling systems integrators and customers to easily and confidently plan and deploy secure, manageable wireless infrastructure,” Schenkel added.

Jacob Mechaly, directeur général of Paris, France-based wireless specialist reseller Avirnet, commented: "Demand for wireless infrastructure is growing exponentially within our customer base. The combination of AirMagnet’s tools and Westcon Group’s wireless and mobility solutions will make it easy for us to exploit the exciting opportunities these markets represent."
