Kingston and Marvell celebrate 6 million milestone
Kingston has announced that more than 6 million SSD units have shipped worldwide featuring Marvell controllers. The 6 million units includes both Kingston and HyperX product lines. The feat was accomplished in just over two years, as the HyperX Predator PCIe SSD in February 2015 was the company’s first SSD to ship utilising a Marvell controller. Marvell’s 88SS9293 controller provides fast, next generation SSD performance, making HyperX’s Predator PCIe SSD appealing to system builders and enthusiasts.

Item tracking solutions vendor TrackR has secured US$50m in Series B funding led by Steve Murray at Revolution Growth, with Foundry Group, Amazon Alexa Fund, DoCoMo Capital, The Glenmede Trust, and Bespoke Strategies also joining the round. The capital will aid the company as it continues creating reliable solutions to quickly find lost items while growing its global community of users. Prior to its Series B, TrackR has raised over US$10m from Foundry Group, Resolute Ventures, IncWell Capital, Orange Fab, Amazon Alexa Fund, and prominent angel investors.

Dicker Data adds HDS rights in Australia
Distributor Dicker Data has added Hitachi Data Systems (HDS) to its portfolio in Australia. The new agreement allows resellers to capitalise on HDS’ solutions for midmarket and enterprise customers. Diacker Data has also formed a new enterprise data business unit to focus on the digital transformation and IoT opportunity to resellers in the midmarket and enterprise segment.

UK-based smart home solutions provider LightwaveRF has announced that its next generation Lightwave Link Plus has been certified under Apple’s licensing scheme as a ‘Works with Apple HomeKit’ product. Andrew Pearson, CEO at LightwaveRF, said: “This announcement of the next generation Lightwave Link and its certification by Apple is the culmination of an extensive research and development programme over more than two years.”

Russian notebook market picks up in 2017
Recent figures from market analysts ITResearch indicated a sharp increase for notebook sales in Russia in the first quarter of 2017 - up 16.9% year-on-year. The research data claimed that close to 661,000 notebooks were sold in Russia in the first quarter of 2017 with a value of RUB26.1 billion (US$459m). This meant that the average sales price (ASP) for a notebook in Russia in the first quarter of 2017 stood at US$695.

Tech Data extends Dell EMC partnership
Distribution giant Tech Data has announced that its technology solutions business, formerly a division of Avnet and now part of Tech Data, has signed a new distribution agreement with Dell EMC in Hungary, Romania, Slovakia and Turkey. Tech Data will provide channel partners in the four countries with access to solutions across the complete enterprise Dell EMC portfolio, including servers, storage, cloud computing solutions and converged infrastructure technologies, to meet the needs of its small, mid-sized and enterprise customers.

Safmar Group reshapes Russian consumer tech retail
The Russian retail channel has undergone significant consolidation in recent months. Safmar Group announced the completion of its acquisition of 100% of the investment company previously owned by Alexander Tynkovan and his partners, which, in turn, owned 57.7% of M.video, at the end of April. Safmar Retail will now become the management company for retail chains M.video and Eldorado, as well as a new online marketplace project called goods.ru.
