INTERVIEW: Evgeniy Zaitsev, PocketBook

Asia-Pacific (APAC) has been identified as a target market for PocketBook’s business expansion in 2017. The company, which provides e-reading devices and business-to-business (B2B) solutions for e-book commerce, will participate at DISTREE APAC in Singapore this November. The event gives tech brands a unique opportunity to meet senior executives from top tech distributors and channel partners from 20-plus countries in the region. Kingston appoints Brightstar in India

Memory products vendor Kingston Technology has appointed Brightstar Telecommunication as a national distributor for its flash business in India. Kingston hopes that the agreement will allow it to reinforce its current footprint in India and expand into new market segments. Brightstar has a customer base of more than 5000 channel partners in India. Read full story

Bowers & Wilkins sets up Australian subsidiary

UK-based audio brand Bowers & Wilkins is entering the Australian market. The company has set up a dedicated Australian subsidiary to start marketing and distributing its products from the start of August. Lars Hundborg, Bowers & Wilkins CEO for Asia Pacific, said: “Australia is a key strategic market for Bowers & Wilkins and so we determined that the best way to service the Australian consumer and support our existing dealers would be to establish direct operations in the country.” Read full story

Harvey Norman expands in East Malaysia

Asia Pacific tech retailer Harvey Norman is expanding in East Malaysia, opening an anchor store at the Vivacity Megamall in Kuching. Harvey Norman becomes the fourth anchor tenant in the mall and its new outlet will span almost 47000 square feet. The move to open a store in East Malaysia forms part of the retailer’s omnichannel strategy. Harvey Norman Malaysia has been handling more than 10000 online transactions from customers in East Malaysia, even though the company did not have a physical retail presence in the region. Courts names new CEO in Indonesia

Singapore-based tech retailer Courts has appointed a new boss for its operation in Indonesia. Joseph Greenway has been named as the new country CEO. Greenway rejoins Courts after two years as COO of Fantastic Furniture in Australia. Prior to that, Greenway spent 15 years at Courts in a variety of executive roles in Singapore and Malaysia. The appointment comes after Roy Santoso resigned from his role as Indonesia country CEO at Courts to pursue other career opportunities. Read full story
