When Merlin meets Merlion in Singapore

It will be a case of Merlin meets Merlion at next week’s DISTREE Asia Pacific (APAC) event in Singapore. Merlin Digital is a leading private label brand in the Middle East for technology and gadgets, with a head office in Dubai, UAE. The company claims that it has wowed customers in the Middle East since the late 1990s. The Merlion is a mythical creature with the head of a lion and the body of a fish, used as a mascot and national personification of Singapore. Courts starts big box build in Indonesia

Retailer Courts has officially started the construction of its first big box store in Indonesia. Located in Kota Harapan Indah, Bekasi, in the East of Jakarta, it will be Courts Asia’s largest ever store in its entire portfolio when it opens in 2014 with 140,000 square feet of store space over two floors. The store will serve an immediate Bekasi population of 2.4 million residents. Read full story

Smart wearable devices market to hit US$19 billion in 2018

The numbercrunchers at Juniper Research reckon that the global market for mobile smart wearable devices will be worth US$19 billion per annum by 2018. Rapid growth in retail sales will be driven by high price points and strong demand for multifunctional smartwatches and smartglasses, according to the research house. Juniper estimates that the market for these devices in 2013 will be worth US$1.4 billion. Read full story
