Bitdefender ready to extend APAC channel reach

Antivirus software vendor Bitdefender is poised to extend its channel reach in Asia Pacific (APAC), appointing additional distributors within the region. Strong market growth in Vietnam

Research house GfK’s latest analysis of the ICT, telecoms and consumer electronics market in Vietnam indicates that the total market value grew 26% year-on-year in the second quarter of 2014 to hit US$1.25 billion. The strong growth was driven by sales increases in six of the seven segments that GfK tracks. Telecoms sales were up 33.7% year-on-year at US$542m. Read full story

Dick Smith cleared for takeoff at Sydney airport

Australian retail powerhouse Dick Smith has successfully tendered to open seven stores in Sydney airport locations from February 2015. The new stores will use the Move by Dick Smith retail format, allowing flyers to purchase the latest consumer electronics products and accessories. In an exclusive partnership with Gebr. Heinemann, the world’s fifth largest duty free operator, Dick Smith will open the Move stores at the Sydney international and Virgin domestic terminals. Read full story

Indian tablet sales climb in second quarter

Research house IDC reckons that tablet shipments in India hit 860,000 in the second quarter of 2014, up 9% compared to the first quarter of the year. IDC claims that the latest results indicate ‘early signs of recovery’ for the product category after a tough six months. Read full story

Electronics e-tailer Newegg has expanded its global footprint to include new markets in Asia Pacific (APAC) and Europe. New online stores have launched in India, New Zealand and Singapore in APAC, and in Ireland, Netherlands and Poland in Europe. The additional sites include multilingual customer support. OPPO smartphones arrive in Australia

Technology brand OPPO has launched four smartphone models in the Australian market. The mobile devices available include the Find 7, N1 mini, Find 7a, and Neo 5, which will be made available initially through the OPPO website - www.oppomobile.com.au. The launch marks OPPO’s first smartphone foray into a Western market at the start of its rollout of mobile handsets to other markets around the world. Read full story

Courts boosts sales in Malaysia

Asia Pacific (APAC) retailer Courts saw its sales in Malaysia climb 8.2% year-on-year for the quarter ending 30th June, while revenues in Singapore dropped 5.9%. Courts total sales for the quarter slipped 1.5% year-on-year to S$194.1m (US$155.24m), with after-tax profits down 27.9% at S$5.08m (US$4.06m) a profit margin of 2.62%. Read full story
