Microsoft boosts online channel reach in Brazil

Vendor giant Microsoft has boosted its online channel reach in Brazil, announcing a tie-up with e-commerce group Cnova, which operates multiple websites including Ponto Frio, Casas Bahia and Extra. The website will host dedicated Microsoft store sections featuring a wide range of the vendor’s portfolio including Xbox, smartphones, tablets, games and accessories. Read full story

Android dominates Brazilian smartphone market

The latest research from Kantar WorldPanel ComTech has revealed that Android is the dominant operating system for smartphones in Brazil, accounting for 89% of all devices sold in the three months ending July 2015. Strong demand for smartphones in Brazil has seen a number of new brands enter the market in 2015 and also created an increased appetite for a wide range of mobile accessories. Read full story

Positivo brings Vaio brand back to Brazil

Device manufacturer Positivo Informatica is bringing the Vaio brand back to life in Brazil. Positivo will manufacture and sell Vaio notebooks in Brazil through a joint operation with Vaio Corporation. This is the first international partnership of this type announced by the owners of the Vaio brand. Vaio Corporation, which inherited Sony Corporation’s computer business, was founded on July 1, 2014 and is based in Japan. Read full story

Argentina shows solid signs in second quarter

Research house GfK’s most recent TEMAX analysis of consumer technology market in Argentina claims that the total market value grew 20.2% year-on-year to hit US$2.33 billion in the second quarter of 2015. Major domestic appliances and IT products were the main growth drivers, according to GfK. Read full story
