HP boosts cloud options for channel partners

Vendor giant HP wants its channel partners to help ease end-user businesses in their transition to the cloud. HP has launched a number of new improvements to its channel programmes and solutions at this week’s global partner conference in Las Vegas. The new HP Partnerone cloud specialisation and collaboration programmes, plus an expanded HP Serviceone offering, are designed to extend channel partners’ sales reach and accelerate end-user adoption of new technologies. Spierkel stands down as Ingram Micro CEO

Global distribution giant Ingram Micro has announced that Greg Spierkel has stood down as CEO of the company. Alain Monie has been named the new CEO of Ingram Micro effective as of today and will also retain his current title of company president. Spierkel will remain at the company until April 15th 2012 to assist with the management transition. Read full story

Positivo posts third quarter results

Brazilian PC powerhouse Positivo Informatica has released its results for the third quarter of 2011. PC unit sales were up 33.9% year-on-year driven by notebook sales. During the first nine months of 2011, Positivo’s PC unit sales hit 1.61 million units. Read full story

HDD shortages will hit PC market

Research house IDC has lowered its outlook for hard disk drive (HDD) and PC shipments. The reassessment comes in the wake of unprecedented flooding in Thailand that has paralysed the production facilities and supply chains of major components vendors. IDC reckons that total PC shipments could be down more than 20% on previous forecasts in the first quarter of 2012 as a result of the HDD shortage. Read full story

Thai floods overshadow WD first quarter figures

Hard drive giant WD has announced sales of US$2.7 billion for the first quarter of 2011 ending September 30th 2011. During the quarter WD shipped some 58 million hard drives with profits hitting US$239m. The vendor’s results included US$21m of expenses related to its proposed acquisition on Hitachi GST. In a conference call to discuss the results, WD also provided an update on the serious flooding in Thailand that has impacted WD’s production facilities. Read full story
