Positivo increases Brazilian retail share
PC manufacturer Positivo Informatica has announced its fourth quarter 2012 results. Positivo Informatica reckons that it grabbed a 14.6% PC market share in Brazil including just under a quarter of the country’s retail PC market. Positivo Informatica claimed to hold 23.7% of the retail PC market in Brazil in the fourth quarter 2012 - up from 17.9% in the third quarter of 2012.

Tech Data posts third quarter figures
Distribution giant Tech Data has posted third quarter sales of US$6.04 billion for the three months ending October 31st 2012, a year-on-year decline of 8%. After-tax profits fell 14% year-on-year to US$45.9m as operating margin slipped to 1.15% from 1.36%. Tech Data claimed that the weakening of certain foreign currencies against the US dollar negatively impacted the net sales in a year-on-year comparison by five percentage points.

Positivo Informatica posts third quarter figures
Brazilian PC manufacturer Positivo Informatica achieved revenues of US$258.8m in the third quarter of 2012 – up 8% year-on-year. Net profits were up 73.9% at US$2.7m – a profit margin of 1%. The company recently announced its intention to enter the mobile phone market, with three smartphones and two messaging phones scheduled to launch in the fourth quarter.

Samsung and Amazon take tablet fight to Apple
The latest tablet market data from the numbercrunchers at IDC shows Samsung and Amazon starting to take a bite out of Apple’s market share. IDC estimates that worldwide tablet shipments hit 27.8 million units in the third quarter of 2012 - up 49.5% year-on-year and 6.7% sequentially. The tablet product category is expecting a bumper fourth quarter in terms of unit sales.

Ingram Micro reports third quarter figures
Global distribution giant Ingram Micro’s worldwide sales were up 1% year-on-year at US$9.03 billion for the third quarter of 2012 ending September 29th. Net profits more than doubled year-on-year to hit US$53.3m. Gross profits rose slightly driven primarily by sales growth in Ingram Micro’s North American high margin business and logistics operations. This increase was tempered by a negative impact created by the fulfilment model used to supply tablet devices.

Ingram Micro completes Brightpoint deal
Global distribution giant Ingram Micro has completed its US$650m acquisition of Brightpoint paying US$9 per share in cash for the mobility specialist. Ingram Micro claims that the deal creates a leading global provider of lifecycle services and solutions for the mobile industry. Ingram Micro also believes the deal will give it enhanced customer reach and deep relationships with key vendors, network operators and mobile virtual network operators in the rapidly growing mobile market.
