Acronis appoints master distributor for emerging markets
Acronis, a leader in cyber protection, today announced that it has appointed Acronis Emerging Markets (AEM) as a new master distributor to increase its focus on and accelerate growth in the Latin American and African markets. Distributors boost two-way market data flow
Distribution, while well placed to provide vendor information to channels, is increasingly offering market insights back to vendors, according to the latest research from the Global Technology Distribution Council (GTDC). The research looks at what vendors think about distribution’s new emerging roles, which includes expanded services going forward. Vendors also mentioned they would like to see a program for increasing trust and partnership between the various channel tiers.

The fast-growing billion-dollar global e-sports economy drove worldwide gaming monitor sales up 175% year-on-year for the second quarter of 2017, according to the latest figures from CONTEXT, the global IT market analysis company. The rapid growth of gaming monitors was not quite enough to offset an overall 3% year-on-year decline in worldwide monitor shipments, driven by lower sales in China.

Tech Data names new LAC general manager
Distribution giant Tech Data has appointed Deena LaMarque Piquion to VP and general manager, Latin America and Caribbean (LAC). In this role, Piquion will oversee the strategic direction and execution of all sales, marketing, and operations functions for the company’s LAC organisation, including its Miami-based Latin America export division. She will report to Jeff Bawol, senior VP, enterprise solutions at Tech Data.

Desktop 3D printer shipments up 17% in first quarter
The first quarter of 2017 saw both worldwide shipments and revenues in the 3D printer space increase, with activity ramping up in the midmarket, according to market research firm CONTEXT. Shipments in the personal and desktop 3D printer segment climbed 17% year-on-year to hit 88,000 units. The average price of a personal and desktop 3D printer slid to US$970 in the first quarter, down from US$1,142 a year earlier.

Monitor market shifts towards high-end
Worldwide shipments of desktop monitors declined by 1.1% year-on-year in the first quarter of 2017, according to the latest figures from CONTEXT, the IT market analysis company. The low-end of each market has been noticeably shrinking, and there has been a marked change in the product mix. There has been a shift to larger, more expensive screens; rising sales of curved monitors, higher resolution displays and gaming monitors; and growing demand for 21:9 monitors. This, in turn, has increased the ASP with prices rising +2% year-on-year, according to CONTEXT.

Distributors ALSO and Intcomex have formed a platform-as-a-service (PaaS) partnership for the ALSO cloud marketplace to serve Latin America and the Caribbean. The two companies are joining forces to make the ALSO cloud marketplace platform-as-a-service (PaaS) available to more than 50,000 Intcomex channel partners in 14 countries in Latin America and the Caribbean, with plans to expand further in the region.

HMD Global is new home of Nokia phones
Nokia has confirmed that the strategic agreement covering branding rights and intellectual property licensing with HMD Global Oy (HMD), originally announced on May 18, 2016 has come into force. HMD has today announced the completion of transactions between HMD, FIH Mobile Limited (a subsidiary of Hon Hai Precision Industries trading as Foxconn Technology Group) and Microsoft, which means that HMD can begin operations as the new home of Nokia phones, under an exclusive global brand licence for the next ten years, excluding Japan.
