Leisure electronics company Lexibook is ready to make its mark in Russia. Lexibook, which designs and markets a wide range of products under multiple brand licences, is participating at DISTREE Russia 2017 on 21-23rd June 2017 in Moscow. The event will give Lexibook access to top executioves from Russia’s leading e-tailers, retailers and distributors. Russian market exceeds US$5.64 billion in first quarter
Research house GfK’s most recent TEMAX analysis of the ICT, telecoms and consumer electronics market in Russia indicates that the total market value hit US$5.64 billion in the first quarter of 2017. Sales in the telecoms segment climbed 9.7% year-on-year in local currency terms to hit US$1.7 billion.

Online marketplaces drive Russian e-commerce growth
According to AKIT, the association of Russian e-commerce companies, online sales in Russia grew 15% year-on-year in calendar 2016 to hit RUB850 billion (US$14.9 billion). The research firm claims that online still only accounts for 4% of domestic retail in Russia. In comparison, online accounts for 12% of the UK market. AKIT believes that the e-commerce market in Russia has huge potential for further growth, which could be driven by the entry of large international players.

AliExpress eyes Russian e-commerce potential
Online marketplace AliExpress has identified Russia as a market of significant growth potential, comparing the current levels of e-commerce development to the situation in China several years ago. The current situation with sanctions is also encouraging more brands from China, ASEAN and India to look at the opportunity to build channels in Russia. Chris Devonshire-Ellis of professional services firm Dezan Shira & Associates, stated: “AliExpress’s experience is really taking up the loose reins that the EU left dangling when they imposed sanctions on Russia. Europe will find they have no business opportunities to go back to in Russia once the sanctions are lifted.”

Russian market rebound possible in 2017
The latest research by PMR has laid bare the IT market downturn that occurred in Russia. The IT market in Russia slumped by almost a third in Euro terms in 2015 to fall below €10 billion (US$11.09 billion). Short term forecasts assume the market will continue to drop in 2016, while a bounce-back is possible in 2017, according to PMR.
