Elko becomes official MSI distributor in Ukraine

Regional distribution outfit Elko has been appointed as an official MSI distributor in Ukraine. Elko covers the Baltics, Eastern Europe, Russia & CIS and offers a comprehensive product portfolio to its reseller base. 3Com and Asbis bag LAN deal in Ukraine

Networking vendor 3Com, working with alongside distribution partner Asbis, has won a multi-million dollar contract to provide Volia, the largest ISP in Ukraine, with a new LAN infrastructure covering Kharkov. The deal could be extended to cover other cities in the country as well. 3Com’s CIS direct touch sales team liased closely with Asbis to secure the deal. Read full story

Sitronics appoints VP for strategy

Russian IT and telecoms giant Sitronics has appointed Oksana Kovalevskaya as its new VP for strategy. Sitronics already has a strong presence in Russia and the CIS and is also now growing its presence in Eastern Europe, the Middle East and Africa. Kovalevskaya previously held the position of deputy general director for strategy and M&A at Sistema Mass Media. Read full story

Merlion directors win Russian IT recognition

Vyacheslav Simonenko and Alexey Abramov, members of the executive team at Russian distribution giant Merlion, have been named among 25 winners for a recent magazine award. The awards, based on the decision of an expert panel of vendor executives, market analysts and commentators, picked the top 25 executives at Russian IT companies for 2008. Read full story

Jel bags Asus rights

IT distributor Jel Corporation has picked up Asus distribution rights in Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, Tajikistan, Azerbaijan and Kazakhstan. The new distribution agreement with Asus will be handled through Jel’s wholly-owned Middle East subsidiary, which has points of presence in Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan and Jebel Ali in the UAE. Jel Corporation is quoted on the Singapore stock exchange. Read full story

Sparxent plans Russia ramp up with Arbyte move

Sparxent, a US-based start-up VAR with aggressive worldwide expansion plans, has signed a letter of intent to snap up Moscow-based IT service provider Arbyte. Sparxent wants to position itself as a vendor agnostic midmarket IT and business solution provider and is preparing a string of acquisitions to make its mark in this sector. Arbyte Group has a significant customer base in the Russian Federation and Ukraine. Read full story

Russian IT market worth US$17.4 billion in 2008

The Russian IT market will be worth US$17.4 billion for full year 2008, according to data from the latest report on global IT spending released by the European Information Technology Observatory (EITO). The 2008 market value represents 17.5% year-on-year growth and with a similar increase predicted next year, Russian IT spend will smash through the US$20 billion barrier in 2009. Read full story

Mega heads East with new partner

Enterprise architecture and business process analysis specialist Mega has extended its partner programme reach to Eastern Europe and Russia, signing a deal with Budapest-based BPM International. Asbis picks up Abbyy rights in Russia

Emerging markets distribution powerhouse Asbis has added Abbyy to its vendor portfolio in Russia. Abbyy offers document recognition, data capture and linguistic software. Under the terms of the deal Asbis will distribute Abbyy’s complete portfolio within the Russian federation. Read full story
