Merlion picks up PocketBook rights

Russian distribution giant Merlion has struck a deal with electronic books (e-books) vendor PocketBook. Under the terms of the agreement, Merlion becomes an authorised distributor for PocketBook in Russia and will use its extensive market reach to open up new channels for the vendor. Read full story

Eldorado announces first quarter figures

First quarter sales at Russian retail giant Eldorado were up 2% year-on-year to US$720.8m in 2010. The company claims that better category management and increased sales of premium brands improved its financial performance. Eldorado also managed to reduce its operating expenses by US$21.7m. Media Markt boosts Russian network

Retail giant Media Markt – part of the Metro Group – has opened two new stores in Russia, taking its national network of outlets to 23. Media Markt has opened its eighth outlet in Moscow and its first store in the city of Lipetsk. Both new stores will stock a wide range of IT and consumer electronics products. Read full story

Positronica opens new Moscow store

Russian retail chain Positronica – part of IT distribution giant Merlion – has opened a new store in the town of Dmitrov in the Moscow province. The new outlet will stock more than 1,500 IT and consumer electronics products from leading vendors including Acer, Asus, HP, Samsung and Sony. Positronica plans to open another 12 stores in Moscow and the surrounding area during 2010. Read full story

Elko bags WD SSD rights

Elko Group has struck a distribution deal with Western Digital (WD) for the vendor’s solid state drives (SSDs). Elko says that it has become an ‘exclusive’ distributor for WD SSDs in the markets of Russia, the Ukraine, The Baltic States and Eastern Europe. The two companies reckon that SSDs offer better performance and improved security for users. Read full story

i-Teco picks up HP award

Russian systems integrator and corporate reseller i-Teco has picked up a software award from HP. i-Teco has been named as an HP business technology optimisation (BTO) partner of the year on the basis of its activity in 2009. The award recognised i-Teco’s successful sales and implementation of HP BTO projects including software solutions to automate IT governance. Read full story

Zyxel pushes for partners in Russia

The Russian operation of network solutions vendor Zyxel has pledged its commitment to working with channel partners in 2010. Zyxel has launched its annual channel programme based on partner authorisation with the tag line ‘work together’. Partners are requested to complete an application for authorisation by the end of May 2010. The programme itself will run for a year from the start of July 2010. Read full story

ETegro develops and manufactures servers, clusters, storage systems, workstations and specialised solutions. OCS and Brocade run Russian workshops

Russian distributor OCS teamed up with data centre networking solutions vendor Brocade for a series of channel seminars. OCS is part of the National Computer Corporation (NCC), one of the largest diversified holding companies operating in Russia’s IT market. OCS and Brocade used the events to raise the skill levels of partners and increase technical expertise within the channel. Read full story
