Megafon deal values Euroset in excess of US$2 billion

Russian mobile operator Megafon has completed its deal to acquire an indirect 25% stake in Russian mobile retailer Euroset. The deal values Euroset at US$2.14 billion. Megafon hopes that its investment in the largest Russian mobile retailer will enhance the quality of its subscriber base, reduce churn and will result in broader marketing of Megafon products through Euroset’s outlets. MTI pushes Wacom tablets in Ukraine

Ukrainian distributor MTI has added Wacom tablets and accessories to its product portfolio. MTI will distributors Wacom products to its in-country retail channel partners. The Wacom product range includes Bamboo tablets, accessories and a stylus for touchscreen devices. Wacom has established itself as a significant player in the world market for pen tablets and a pioneer in the development of the pen as a computer input device. Read full story

AOC turns to FireBird for Central Asia TV move

Displays vendor AOC, part of Taiwan-based TPV Technology, has announced its entry into the TV space in Central Asia and the Transcaucasia region. AOC has appointed Dubai-based FireBird as a distribution partner for its LCD and LED TVs in both regions. The two companies have worked together on the distribution of PC monitors for several years. Elko starts Wexler sales

Distributor Elko Group has started delivering Wexler electronic books and tablet PCs to its channel customer base. Elko signed a Russian distribution deal with Wexler, one of the largest stores of electronic content and the first electronic publishing house in the Russian Federation. Wexler has worked closely with various vendors including Intel, Microsoft, LG, Nvidia, AMD, Foxconn and others to develop its products, which are all certified according to international standards. Lanit boosts retail arm with Nosimo deal

Russian IT group Lanit has bolstered its retail arm through the acquisition of Nosimo for approximately US$50m. Nosimo operates Samsung-branded stores in Russia and was a rival to Lanit’s re:Store Retail Group, which specialises in running branded retail stores for major vendors. re:Store operates branded stores for Apple, Samsung and Sony. PC sales through distribution up in Russia

The latest data from channel research company Context shows strong PC sales through distribution in Russia for July and August 2012 with year-on-year growth in both months. This compared favourably to a year-on-year decline that was seen in most countries in Western Europe. Read full story

Euroset rebranding continues

Russian retailer Euroset has accelerated its rebranding exercise, updating 200 mobile shops in the country’s Far East region across 50 cities. Euroset commenced its rebranding exercise in June 2011 using a friendly yellow terrier dog as a symbol of the company and updating stores using a yellow and white colour scheme. The rebranding vision was developed by British agency Wolff Olins. Read full story

Merlion extends Eaton distribution rights

Russian channel giant Merlion has extended its deal with Eaton and will start pushing the vendor’s power distribution products to its customer base. Merlion has been successfully selling Eaton’s UPS and power filter products for more than a year. Merlion has now added Eaton’s range of power distribution products including circuit breakers and cabinets. The two companies hope that the extended agreement will persuade an even greater number of channel partners to purchase Eaton kit in Russia. Read full story

MTI strikes Daewoo deal

Ukrainian distributor MTI has struck a deal with Daewoo Electronics. Under the terms of the agreement, MTI will hold exclusive in-country rights for 32” LED TVs by Daewoo, expanding the distributor’s portfolio of TVs. Read full story

MTI tunes in for TCL distribution

Ukrainian distributor MTI has added TCL to its vendor portfolio. The distribution deal will see MTI push TCL’s LCD and LED TVs through its Ukrainian channel partners. MTI claims that the addition of TCL has expanded its choice of affordable TVs – a segment that is witnessing strong demand from Ukrainian consumers. Read full story
