South African market for consumer technology grows

Research house GfK’s most recent TEMAX analysis of the ICT, telecoms and consumer electronics market in South Africa indicates that the total market value grew 22% year-on-year in the fourth quarter of 2014, to hit a value of ZAR24.77 billion (US$2.04 billion). The market value for full year 2014 hit ZAR80.82 billion (US$6.66 billion), according to GfK’s research. Read full story

ZTE appoints Mitsumi as African distributor

Telecoms and networking vendor ZTE has appointed Mitsumi as a strategic distribution partner for Africa. The agreement covers Nigeria, Kenya, Zambia, Ethiopia, Tanzania, Uganda, Ghana, Democratic Republic of Congo, Rwanda, Ivory Coast, Mauritius, Namibia, Tunisia, Cameroon, Madagascar, Burundi, Zimbabwe, Botswana. Ricoh extends Rectron partnership

Ricoh South Africa (SA) has extended its distribution deal with Rectron. Two years into the partnership, the imaging vendor’s agreement with Rectron has been extended to include first and second line support for the majority of Ricoh devices it sells. Dell creates META business region

Vendor giant Dell has announced the creation of a new Middle East, Turkey and Africa (META) business region. The company claims that the move will help strengthen its presence in the region and create a new scalable structure that can provide additional support to partners and customers. Driss Elougmani will lead Dell’s META business. Dell’s South Africa business will continue to remain a separate organisation. Read full story

Jua Energy targets key African markets

Solar-powered systems and technology accessories brand Jua Energy has expanded its channel reach into Kenya. The company, founded in 2012 has now got African presence in Nigeria, Ethiopia and Kenya. The company also sells its products in India. Jua products are targeted at consumers who lack access to electricity. Read full story

Jumia expands operations in Ivory Coast

E-tailer Jumia is continuing its rapid expansion in Africa. The company has announced the opening of six new hubs in the Ivory Coast in the cities of Yamoussoukro, Bouaké, San Pedro, Daloa, Gagnoa, and Korogho. Jumia reckons that its new in-country points of presence will help it achieve its goal of revolutionising the shopping habits of all Ivorians. Read full story

Mitsumi picks up African distributor award

African distributor Mitsumi picked up a regional accolade at the recent ‘EMEA Channel Academy: 2015 Awards’, which took place in conjunction with DISTREE EMEA in Monaco.
