Phoenix picks up Kaspersky accolade
African distributor Phoenix Software has been named Kaspersky Lab’s emerging markets retail distribution partner of the year – the second year in a row that Phoenix has picked up the award. Phoenix picked up the accolade at security solutions vendor Kaspersky’s recent emerging markets partner conference held in Sicily, Italy. The award saw Phoenix up against distributors from the Middle East, Latin America, rest of Africa and Russia – all part of Kaspersky’s emerging markets territory.

Mitsumi hosts Toshiba event in Ethiopia
African distributor Mitsumi held a Toshiba channel event in Ethiopia earlier this month. The event, which took place on the 5th June in Addis Ababa, saw more than 150 channel executives attend to hear more about Toshiba’s latest products in the PC market segment. During the event, Mitsumi outlined the Toshiba product roadmap to channel partners and discusses solution selling and go-to-market strategies.

Strong PC market figures for MEA
Research house IDC has revealed strong PC shipment figures for the Middle East and Africa region during the first quarter of 2012. IDC claims that PC shipments were up 13.5% year-on-year at 6 million units for the first quarter, driven by strong demand for notebooks, which compensated for a small decline in desktop shipments.

Citrix appoints MEA channel manager
IT solutions supplier Citrix has appointed Sarah Mews Sultani as channel development manager for the Middle East and Africa (MEA) region. Sultani will focus on the management of Citrix’s key partners in UAE and Kuwait. In her new role Sultani will be based in Citrix’s regional head office in Dubai to drive channel marketing activities in the region. She reports to Noman Qadir, regional channel manager for Middle East, North Africa and Turkey.
