Rectron lands WD retail drive rights

Storage vendor Western Digital (WD) has expanded its channel reach in South Africa, naming Rectron as an authorised in-country distributor for its range of external retail hard drives. ‘ECA: 2011 Awards’ – DISTRIBUTORS

The nominated distributors for the ‘EMEA Channel Academy: 2011 Awards’ have been announced today. In total there are nine regional accolades up for grabs at this year’s awards ceremony, which takes place in association with DISTREE XXL, EMEA’s premier channel event. During the last few months, senior vendor executives have voted for their preferred distributor by region. The top five nominated distributors go through to the final where they face a live electronic vote to determine the winner in each category. Read full story

Avaya eyes emerging markets growth

Business communications solution vendor Avaya held an emerging markets conference for more than 500 channel partners from within the EMEA theatre. During the event, Michael Bayer, Avaya’s EMEA president, claimed that double digit sales growth was a strong possibility for 2011 due to the vendor’s ability to meet changing customer demands in the Middle East as companies look to deploy enterprise communications systems, software and services. South African distributor Comztek has appointed Bryden Culbert as its Microsoft business development manager for the Cape region. In his new role, Culbert will be responsible for the management and promotion of Microsoft licensing within the region.
