Toshiba lauds latest IDC figures for MEA
Notebook vendor Toshiba has claimed top spot in the third quarter IDC statistics for the Middle East and Africa (MEA), according to the vendor. Toshiba came top in terms of portable PC shipments for the quarter with 22.5% of the total market for notebooks, with the vendor achieving ’significant’ unit growth of 44.8% year-on-year.

Lenovo partner programme launches in MEA
Hardware vendor Lenovo has launched its partner network programme (PNP) in the Middle East and Africa (MEA) region. The PNP is designed to boost channel partner skills. Lenovo’s PNP offers tools to improve partner relations and includes free online resources and a loyalty reward scheme. The PNP offers three categories of participation: member, premium and gold partner.

IT group Datatec has snapped up African distributor Comztek in a deal worth up to US$9.9m. Johannesburg-based Comztek employs some 200 staff and has annual sales of approximately US$120m. Datatec reckons that its latest acquisition is ‘highly complementary’ to its existing Westcon business in the region.

Tripp Lite signs Mitsumi for African reach
Power protection, connectivity, and infrastructure kit supplier Tripp Lite has inked an African distribution deal with Mitsumi. The tie-up will see Mitsumi push Tripp Lite products into developing IT markets in both East and West Africa. The two companies hope to further establish Tripp Lite’s reputation as an uninterruptible power supply (UPS) systems vendor.

Lanci lauds Lenovo’s MEA leaps
Gianfranco Lanci, president EMEA and senior VP at hardware giant Lenovo, has reiterated the importance of emerging markets such as the Middle East and Africa (MEA) to the vendor’s growth ambitions. Speaking in Dubai, Lanci stated that Lenovo currently held more than 10% market share in seven MEA markets: UAE, Egypt, South Africa, Lebanon, Kuwait, Jordan and Morocco.
