Security software vendor Trend Micro has appointed AxisWorkgroup as a distributor in South Africa. The move forms part of Trend Micro’s efforts to broaden its channel reach in Africa, build awareness of its product offering and grow market share. AxisWorkgrpup’s advanced technology business unit will officially launch a specialist security distribution practice on August 22nd.

Storage Products Association (SPA) established
Storage giant WD has set up a new association to promote magnetic storage technologies. WD has teamed up with other hard drive companies to establish the Storage Products Association (SPA). The SPA, which also includes HGST, Seagate and Toshiba as members, plans to make consumers and professionals aware of how critical hard disk drives (HDDs) and solid-state hybrid drives (SSHDs) are to their digital lives.

Mobile distributor Emitac Mobile Solutions (EMS) has picked up a partnership award from device vendor Blackberry. The award was presented for record-breaking regional sales of Blackerry smartphones, and celebrates the strong partnership that EMS and BlackBerry have enjoyed for the last six years. EMS is one of the largest distributors of Blackberry smartphones and accessories in the region, supporting 100 mobile phone operators in 56 countries across the Middle East, Africa, CIS, South East Asia and Eastern Europe.

Despec adds Sandisk rights in East Africa
Distributor Despec has picked up Sandisk distribution rights in East Africa. The agreement, which covers Kenya, Rwanda, Tanzania and Uganda, will see office and printer supplies specialist Despec push a range of Sandisk memory products to its channel customer base. Sandisk, which recently signed Mitsumi as an African distributor, hopes that the appointment of Despec will further accelerate its sales growth in Africa.

Memory products vendor Sandisk has boosted its distribution reach in Africa, signing Mitsumi as a regional channel partner. Mitsumi is a fast-growing African distributor with reach in 19 countries across the continent including Kenya, Tanzania, Ghana, Tunisia, Morocco, Zambia and Namibia. Sandisk hopes that its new partner will give it increased access to the fast-growing regional market for smartphone memory accessories.
