Toshiba lauds latest IDC figures for MEA
Notebook vendor Toshiba has claimed top spot in the third quarter IDC statistics for the Middle East and Africa (MEA), according to the vendor. Toshiba came top in terms of portable PC shipments for the quarter with 22.5% of the total market for notebooks, with the vendor achieving ’significant’ unit growth of 44.8% year-on-year.

Fonexion to turn contacts into customers
Accessories vendor Fonexion is ready to expand its distribution and retail channel reach in 2013 and will attend next month’s DISTREE EMEA to meet these objectives. Luke Ireland, COO at Fonexion, said: “We are looking for distributors or big retail chains who feel interested in Ideus and other exclusive brands and licences we are currently distributing. Turning 15 contacts into customers would meet our goals.”

AOC adds Estishari as distributor in Libya
Monitor vendor AOC, part of Taiwan-based TPV Technology, has appointed Estishari for Computer Services as an authorised distribution partner in Libya. Under the terms of the deal Estishari will push AOC’s range of LCD and LED monitors across the country.

Middle East retailer Emax, part of the Landmark Group, is expecting a significant sales boost during this year’s Dubai Shopping Festival (DSF), which runs from January 3rd until February 3rd. Emax has boosted its advertising and promotional spend during DSF by 22% year-on-year, splashing out more than US$2.2m for this year’s event.

Lenovo partner programme launches in MEA
Hardware vendor Lenovo has launched its partner network programme (PNP) in the Middle East and Africa (MEA) region. The PNP is designed to boost channel partner skills. Lenovo’s PNP offers tools to improve partner relations and includes free online resources and a loyalty reward scheme. The PNP offers three categories of participation: member, premium and gold partner.

Toshiba opens Riyadh branch office
PC vendor Toshiba opened a branch office in Saudi Arabia at the end of 2012. The branch office in Riyadh demonstrates Toshiba’s ongoing commitment to the Middle East market as it looks to continue its expansion in the region. Toshiba achieved 50% year-on-year growth for its notebook business in the Middle East during the first half of 2012, driven by demand in major markets including Saudi Arabia, UAE and Qatar.
