Smart home demand hampered by poor consumer marketing

European adoption of smart technologies and connected home devices remains hampered by poor consumer marketing, resulting in weak demand. The problem is compounded by a failure to articulate clear and compelling value propositions, and a struggle to communicate usage scenarios that truly appeal to the mass market. Syscap pledges channel financing boost

UK-based IT finance provider Syscap has ring-fenced £50m (US$78.3m) for the IT channel in 2015 and is launching a new partner programme. The announcement forms part of a wider strategy to refocus the company as the primary source of channel finance. Syscap estimates that it currently deals with less than 10% of the reseller community in the UK that meets its new eligibility criteria. Read full story

Arrayent opens European headquarters

Internet of Things (IoT) platform provider Arrayent has opened a European office in London. This new office will serve as the European headquarters and support all business functions from sales, marketing, customer support and applications engineering. Arrayent claims that customers will receive more timely and localised pre and post-sales support. Arrayent’s product roadmaps will be strengthened by closer collaboration with its European customers. Synaxon hooks Little Fish for 2015 event

Channel dealer group Synaxon has appointed event management firm Little Fish to deliver its 2015 UK conference. Little Fish was founded and is run by Lindsey Fish, who has extensive experience of channel event management and previously worked in senior marketing roles at cloud and services provider Exponential-e and prior to that at trade distributor, Entatech. Darty upbeat on 4D benefits

European retailer Darty claims that it is continuing to see the benefits of its 4Ds plan to drive trading, digitalise Darty, develop the brand and deliver cost savings. Darty’s group sales for the quarter ending July 31st 2014 were up 5.9% year-on-year, according to an interim management statement based on unaudited accounts. Read full story

Mydlink range to launch in Europe

Networking vendor D-Link has announced that its Mydlink home product range will be available in Europe from early October 2014. Starting with a portfolio of four connected products and the free Mydlink home app, users can monitor, automate and control their homes from their sofa or from afar. The range consists of two video home monitors, a motion detector and a smart plug. Read full story

Belkin sees bright future with Osram

Belkin, which now bills itself as an Internet of Things (IoT) company, has struck an agreement with bulb supplier Osram. The two companies will collaborate on residential solutions using the Osram Lightify smart connected lighting ecosystem and Belkin’s WeMo home automation ecosystem. Read full story

Nest extends European retail channel reach

Smart home products and solutions outfit Nest Labs will extend its product availability into Belgium, France, Ireland and the Netherlands later this month. The Nest thermostat and Nest smoke and carbon monoxide alarm will be sold in 400 retail stores across Europe, with a further 150 stores to be added by the end of the year. Read full story
