Computerlinks receives takeover offer

IT security and internet solutions distributor Computerlinks has received a takeover offer from Platin 274, a fund managed by Barclays Private Equity, which values the company at US$162m (€104m) – a premium of 38.9% on the Frankfurt-listed VAD’s share price at the time the takeover approach was announced. Computerlinks’ shares soared in pre-market trading this morning by as much as 41% as a result of the bid announcement. Read full story

Dell launches top tier programme in Europe

Hardware giant Dell has launched its top tier certified partner programme in Europe as the vendor looks to increasingly embrace the channel as a primary route-to-market. Dell will offer industry certification and a skills development programme to partners that want to engage in a deeper working relationship with the vendor. Read full story

Astaro unveils reseller discounts in UK

Security appliance vendor Astaro has kick started a channel promotion for its latest web gateway product line, offering UK resellers a whopping 85% discount on the retail price when they purchase the kit from authorised distributors before June 30th 2008. Wick Hill wins brace of awards

Security-focused VAD Wick Hill has picked up a couple of awards from its vendor partners. WatchGuard named Wick Hill as its 2008 value added distributor of the year. Wick Hill distributes WatchGuard solutions in the UK and Germany. Wick Hill made it a double whammy of awards after being named EMEA distributor of the year by IP service optimisation solutions vendor Allot Communications. Read full story

Avnet extends Colubris rights to Germany

Avnet Technology Solutions has extended its distribution deal with Colubris Networks to cover Germany. The move comes following the successful business relationship between Colubris and Avnet in the UK. Avnet will offer Colubris full portfolio of intelligent wireless LANs in the German market, strengthening the distributor’s wireless solutions offering. Read full story

South River Technologies has signed up WBC as a distributor to develop the channel to market for a French version of the vendor’s WebDrive product. WBC will exclusively distribute WebDrive – a universal file access client that South River claims enables users to securely access, edit and manage documents on remote servers through the convenience of a drive letter. Samsung lands Long for European printer push

Samsung Europe has lured Graham Long from HP to become its new European printing business director. In his new role, Long will assume responsibility for strengthening Samsung’s number two position in the European printing market. Xerox picks up Veenman for US$68m

Document solutions powerhouse Xerox has completed its acquisition of Dutch distributor Veenman for US$68m cash. Xerox says that the deal will double its sales force in the Netherlands and open up a route-to-market for more than 4,000 in-country SMB customers. The deal pairs Xerox’s document products and services portfolio with Veenman’s channel reach. Read full story
