Arrow Enterprise Computing Solutions (ECS) has struck a distribution deal to offer Overland Storage solutions to resellers in France, Belgium, Luxembourg and the Netherlands. Arrow ECS, a business segment of Arrow Electronics, will sell the Overland solutions through its Arrow ECS Logix group.

Business communications outfit Avaya has struck a distribution deal with Westcon covering the Italian market. Under the terms of the deal, Westcon has become a non-exclusive distributor of Avaya enterprise solutions across Italy. Westcon Group is already Avaya’s leading distributor in Europe.

Information management solutions outfit Nayatek has boosted its European channel-to-market, signing up value-added distributor (VAD) SecureComm. Under the terms of the deal, SecureComm, which focuses on the distribution of messaging, mobility and security solutions, will sell Nayatek’s next generation grid based Datosphere solution through its network of European resellers and systems integrators.

Avnet plucks Akora Turkey for JV
Avnet has made a move into the Turkish IT distribution market, forming a joint venture (JV) with Sanko Holding Group. Under the terms of the deal VAD giant Avnet will hold a majority stake of 50.01% in the new JV, which will include the operations of distributor Akora – an affiliate company of Sanko. The JV is positioned as one of the largest IT distributors in Turkey, selling through a network of 3,000 resellers.

Senior European executives quit Westcon
Two of Westcon’s senior European executives are leaving the networking distribution outfit. Barry Shakespeare, executive VP of Westcon Group Europe has resigned and will exit the stage on January 30th 2009 (probably not pursued by a bear). European financial director Jon Toohey has also resigned after holding the position for three years and will be replaced by Richard Hodgetts, previously Westcon Group’s UK finance director.

European value-added distributor Zycko has struck a deal with LifeSize Communications, a high definition (HD) video communications solutions supplier. Under the terms of the deal, Zycko, which specialises in convergent storage and IP solutions, will provide LifeSize’s VAR community with HD communication systems.

BenQ eyes Eastern European potential
BenQ has pledged to continue its channel expansion in Central and Eastern Europe in 2009. The hardware vendor continues to identify the distribution partners that will enable it to build market share in specific countries throughout the region, opening up new channels to market for its expansive product portfolio. BenQ plans to get its 2009 channel development activity off to a flier by attending DISTREE XXL in Monaco in early February.

South East Europe IT powerhouse ComTrade Group has struck a distribution deal with virtualisation software outfit VMware. Under the terms of the deal, NTCHS, which is part of the ComTrade Group, has become exclusive distributor for VMware software solutions in the region of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro and Macedonia.
