Meru Networks signs Azlan agreement
Wireless networking outfit Meru has announced a European agreement with Azlan, the VAD arm of distribution giant Tech Data. Through this deal, Azlan expands its IT portfolio with Meru’s virtualised wireless LAN (WLAN) solutions to deliver value-added solutions to its base of resellers.

Unified end-user computing software supplier Centrix Software has extended its distribution agreement with Arrow ECS to cover Germany. Centrix has also boosted its UK channel reach, signing up A&O, Bytes, B2Lateral, OCSL and Strategic Technologies as reseller partners.

The new status is in recognition of Azlan’s investments and success it has achieved with its Felixonline quoting, ordering and contract renewals system for Cisco smartnet services.

Western European PC sales drop
The latest data from research house Context has shown a sharp year-on-year drop in PC sales in February 2011. Unit sales were down 5.8% as consumers shied away from netbooks and notebooks, according to Context. Netbook unit sales were down 24.4% while traditional notebook PC sales slumped 18.4%. The data released by Context did not state how much of this decline was due to the impact of tablet sales – most notably iPads – cannibalising the notebook and netbook segments.

Synaxon UK adds Hypertec to supplier list
Dealer group Synaxon has added VAD Hypertec to its list of supplier partners. The agreement will give Synaxon members access to Hypertec’s range of high performance memory and system specific storage solutions as well as media duplication units, ergonomic workstation equipment, laptop and tablet luggage, network attached storage and security products.

Tech Data’s European VAD unit Azlan has been named VMware EMEA distribution partner of the year for 2010. The award was made in recognition of Azlan’s successful cultivation of channel opportunities among the company’s mutual partners over the past year. Azlan has invested in the development of its own competencies in VMware technologies and in educating and activating reseller partners, enabling them to push virtualisation solutions to the SMB market.

Research house IDC has come up with its top ten cloud predictions for the European software market in 2011. IDC reckons that the cloud, which it defines as packaged software solutions licensed as subscriptions and delivered over the internet, will have a profound impact on software vendors, business models, security, cloud use cases as well as IT managers and directors.

Networking giant Cisco has launched a new service giving 24,000 select and registered partners access to personalised sales support. The new partner advisor gives small business and midmarket resellers immediate sales support via click-to-chat or phone. The initial rollout includes capability to offer the service to 7,000 partners in Europe.

Storage vendor Drobo has struck a distribution deal with e92plus as it looks to grow its presence in the SMB channel. Drobo are partnering with e92plus to increase engagement with more network and data focused VARs. For resellers, it is claimed that the Drobo range fits below the cost of traditional SAN vendors but delivers a product that provides ease of use with advanced technology that enable SMBs to backup and store data securely and quickly.

Ingram Micro adds Janam in Europe
Ingram Micro EMEA has extended its portfolio, signing a European distribution deal with rugged device vendor Janam Technologies. Under the terms of the deal, Ingram Micro will distribute Janam’s full portfolio of rugged mobile computers, accessories and services throughout Europe.
