DISTREE EMEA launches new content tracks for 2013 event
DISTREE EMEA 2013 will take place from February 19-22nd at the Fairmont Hotel in Monaco. Now entering its 11th year, the event will gather more than 1,000 senior channel executives from 75 countries across the Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA) region. More than 130 manufacturers are set to attend DISTREE EMEA 2013, meeting the leading retailers and distributors of volume ICT, telecoms and consumer electronics (CE) products.

European desktop PC sales slide
Research house Context reckons that European desktop PC sales through distribution continued to slide in July and August 2012. Context reckons that desktop PC sales to businesses through distribution were down 10.3% year-on-year for the two month period as more and more customers opted for portable devices instead.

Monthly European PC tracker unveiled
Research houses IDC and Context have teamed up to launch a monthly PC and tablet tracker service in Europe. The new tracker will produce monthly updates on manufacturer shipments into Germany, France and the UK. The two companies claim that the new service will combine IDC’s supply side insight with Context’s channel sales data, offering and accurate and frequent view of market conditions.

Tech Data appoints Urban to European role
Distribution giant Tech Data has appointed Michael Urban as senior VP for broadline and processes Europe. Urban has a wealth of distribution experience including more than a decade spent at Actebis. In his new role Urban will report to Nestor Cano, president Europe at Tech Data. Urban will also serve as a member of Tech Data’s European executive board.

Entatech adds Fujitsu to UK portfolio
UK-based distributor Entatech has added Fujitsu to its vendor portfolio. The agreement will see Entatech distribute a range of Fujitsu products including laptops, servers, storage and desktop products. Entatech will focus on developing new resellers capable of pushing the Fujitsu corporate Lifebook range, Primergy server range and Eternus Storage range.

Lintell named channel director at Kaspersky
Security solutions vendor Kaspersky has announced the appointment of Andrew Lintell as channel director for Europe. Lintell, formerly corporate sales director UK and Eire at Kaspersky, will lead the newly formed European channel department. He will be responsible for creating and leading the European partner programme and driving it across the region in close cooperation with country managing directors, sales and channel leaders.

Europe’s top 500 distributors boost sales 20% in 2011
The latest data from channel research outfit IT Europa claims that the top 500 European distributors generated combined sales up just over 20% year-on-year in 2011 at US$153.2 billion. IT Europa reckons that the top 500 distributors proved resilient in the face of recessionary pressures.

BrightPoint strikes Fitbit deal
Mobility distributor BrightPoint has struck a logistics services agreement with Fitbit, a manufacturer of wireless fitness and health devices. Under the terms of the deal, BrightPoint’s regional affiliates will provide a variety of logistic services in both Europe and North America, including receiving, warehousing, inventory and order management, kitting, transportation management, order fulfilment and reverse logistics for the Fitbit ultra wireless tracker and Aria Wi-Fi smart scale.

Brightstar divests European stake
Mobility distributor Brightstar has agreed to divest its 50% stake in its European joint venture to Tech Data for US$165.6m cash. Brightstar has announced that, despite the divestment, it plans to continue operating in Europe through a wholly-owned subsidiary.
