CONTEXT reveals desktop PC figures

Channel tracking experts CONTEXT reckon that desktop PC sales sold through Western European distribution were down 15% year-on-year in the fourth quarter of 2012. The results, based on feedback from CONTEXT’s Western European distribution panel, showed most vendors experiencing a year-on-year decrease. Read full story

Fonexion to turn contacts into customers

Accessories vendor Fonexion is ready to expand its distribution and retail channel reach in 2013 and will attend next month’s DISTREE EMEA to meet these objectives. Luke Ireland, COO at Fonexion, said: “We are looking for distributors or big retail chains who feel interested in Ideus and other exclusive brands and licences we are currently distributing. Darty to seek approval for Italian disposal

European ICT and consumer electronics (CE) retailer Darty will seek shareholder approval to proceed with the disposal of its Italian operations at a meeting scheduled for January 17th 2013. Darty is proposing to hand over its 20 Italian stores, staff and €3m (US$3.9m) cash to electronics retailer DPS. In return Darty would receive a 15% stake in DPS. Darty’s Italian operation has posted more than €100m (US$132m) in cumulative operating losses since 2005. Read full story

Also-Actebis grabs majority stake in Atomblock

European distribution giant Also-Actebis has acquired a majority stake in Dutch electronic software distribution (ESD) outfit Atomblock. The company will in future trade under the name Also Digital. In addition to ESD, Atomblock, which was set up in 2010, also offers point of sales activation (POSA) services. Read full story

Darty pledges to stem losses

European electronics retailer Darty plans to remodel its business as it looks to drive efficiency and reduce costs across the group. The company has pledged to eliminate its losses in Italy, Spain, the Czech Republic and Slovakia and will also keep its Turkish operation under review. The plan now is for Darty to try and strengthen its position in its core markets of France and Benelux. Read full story

Software sales through distribution remain solid

Channel research house CONTEXT reckons that software sales through Europe’s main distribution channels have defied the region’s economic downturn. CONTEXT claims that third quarter 2012 revenues for software sold through distribution were up 4.7% year-on-year. Read full story

Computer 2000 plans Zyxel training in Dublin

Computer 2000, the UK and Ireland arm of distribution giant Tech Data, has scheduled two days of free Zyxel training at its offices in Dublin later this month. Computer 2000 hopes that the sessions will enable Irish resellers to get up to speed on Zyxel’s range of managed and smart switches. Read full story

DISTREE EMEA teams with CONTEXT for ChannelWatch 2013

DISTREE EMEA has announced a new partnership with international IT research company CONTEXT. The agreement will see CONTEXT and DISTREE EMEA collaborate to produce new in-depth research on channel conditions across the Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA) region.
