Ingram Micro Europe Mobility appoints Currie

Ingram Micro Europe Mobility, the mobile device arm of the distribution giant, has appointed Jac Currie as president, effective February 18th. He will report to Shailendra Gupta, global head of Ingram Micro’s Mobility business and senior executive VP and president, Ingram Micro Asia Pacific. Currie will replace Anurag Gupta, current president of Ingram Micro Europe Mobility, who has resigned to pursue personal interests. Anurag Gupta will work with Currie until March 31st 2013, to ensure a smooth transition. Read full story

Specialist distributors prepare for DISTREE EMEA

Hundreds of distributors from across the Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA) region are gearing up for next week’s DISTREE EMEA event in Monaco. One distributor preparing to assess potential new vendor partners at DISTREE EMEA is DIES Distribution, a specialist distributor of hardware accessories and video games in Belgium and Luxembourg. Smartwatch category to grow in 2013

Connectedevice is one of hundreds of ICT and consumer electronics (CE) brands flocking to Monaco next month to meet leading distributors and retail buyers from across the Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA) region. Connectedevice will use its participation at DISTREE EMEA 2013 to build channels for two new products: Cookoo - the connected watch, and FlowerPower by Osungo energy saving mobile chargers. Wexler plans European channel expansion

Tablets and e-readers from Wexler could become a common sight in European markets in 2013. Wexler is attending next month’s DISTREE EMEA in Monaco to meet major distributors and retailers from across the region as the company looks to extend its channel reach. Belkin to buy Linksys

Networking and accessories vendor Belkin has entered into an agreement to acquire Linksys, Cisco’s home networking business unit. The deal would include Linksys products, technology brand and employees. Linksys currently has operations in more than 100 countries around the world. Read full story

CONTEXT reveals desktop PC figures

Channel tracking experts CONTEXT reckon that desktop PC sales sold through Western European distribution were down 15% year-on-year in the fourth quarter of 2012. The results, based on feedback from CONTEXT’s Western European distribution panel, showed most vendors experiencing a year-on-year decrease. Read full story

Fonexion to turn contacts into customers

Accessories vendor Fonexion is ready to expand its distribution and retail channel reach in 2013 and will attend next month’s DISTREE EMEA to meet these objectives. Darty to seek approval for Italian disposal

European ICT and consumer electronics (CE) retailer Darty will seek shareholder approval to proceed with the disposal of its Italian operations at a meeting scheduled for January 17th 2013. Darty is proposing to hand over its 20 Italian stores, staff and €3m (US$3.9m) cash to electronics retailer DPS. In return Darty would receive a 15% stake in DPS. Darty’s Italian operation has posted more than €100m (US$132m) in cumulative operating losses since 2005. Read full story
