Econocom strikes Microsoft HoloLens deal

Econocom has struck a deal to distribute Microsoft HoloLens in France, the UK, Belgium, Spain, Ireland, Italy and Luxembourg. Econocom’s distribution, services and financing experience will aim to boost widespread deployment of Microsoft’s mixed reality solution for the digital transformation of companies and industries. “Mixed reality is still in its early stages but already it’s poised to revolutionise a number of uses in the professional world,” said Bruno Grossi, executive director of Econocom. Gass gets European digital role at Tech Data

Distribution giant Tech Data has appointed Andy Gass as senior VP digital for Europe. In this role, Gass will drive the development and execution of the company’s overall digitaliasation strategy for Tech Data in Europe, overseeing the distributor’s e-commerce platforms, digital marketing practices and automated processes across its operations in the region. Gass will hold this responsibility in addition to his current role as senior VP, UK & Ireland and will continue to report to Patrick Zammit, president, Europe at Tech Data. Read full story

Tech Data strikes Vodafone IoT agreement

Distributor Tech Data has announced a pan-European agreement to offer managed Internet of Things (IoT) connectivity services from Vodafone, one of the world’s largest telecommunications companies. Through this agreement, resellers and systems integrators across Europe can access Vodafone’s value-added IoT services, which enable end customers to securely integrate and tailor IoT solutions into their businesses in segments such as manufacturing, logistics and transport, retail, or smart spaces. Huawei signs distribution deal with Aurora

Huawei has struck a Nordic distribution deal with Aurora Group, a subsidiary of DistIT AB. The deal covers Huawei’s range of accessories. Xiaozhong Zhao, director of consumer business group (CBG) Nordic EU at Huawei, said: “We are very pleased to announce our corporation with Aurora Group, one of the largest and most recognised distributors of electronics across the Nordics." ALSO boosts net profits in first half

Distribution giant ALSO’s net profits hit €36.9m (US$43.3m) in the first half of the year – up 32.4% year-on-year. Pre-tax profits were up 27.6% at €51.4m (US$60.3m). With sales up 9.5% at €4.13 billion (US$4.84 billion), ALSO’s first half net profit margin reached 0.89%. Klinglmair leaves ALSO

Tech Data expands Docker rights in Europe

Distribution giant Tech Data’s technology solutions business, formerly a division of Avnet, has extended its distribution agreement with Docker, to deliver their enterprise edition (EE) offering across a wider European footprint. The extended footprint includes Austria, Switzerland, Italy, Spain, and Portugal, as well as the East region countries where it operates, including Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland, Romania, Slovakia, Turkey, and the Adriatic region. GTDC claims surge in European sales through distribution

The European IT market has surged in the first quarter, claims the Global Technology Distribution Council (GTDC), based on sales through distribution for the first quarter of 2017. GTDC claims that the European market is now growing faster than that of the US. A year ago, some countries were still in decline, but in March 2017, Spain was up 13%, Portugal 19% France 4%, Belgium 12% Germany 7%, Norway 16% and UK 12%. Read full story

Panasonic expands rugged notebook market share in Europe

Panasonic has cemented its position as Europe’s leading rugged mobile computing manufacturer in the latest market analysis from VDC Research. With its Panasonic Toughbook range, the company extended its market-leading share of the European rugged notebook market with a 67% revenue share of sales in 2016. The Panasonic Toughpad tablet range continued to lead the rugged tablet market with a 56% revenue share of sales and the company’s expansion into the rugged handheld market accelerated with year-on-year growth of 176%.
