Tech Data to buy Technology Solutions business from Avnet

NASDAQ-quoted global distribution giant Tech Data will stump up US$2.6 billion to acquire the Technology Solutions business from rival distributor Avnet. Tech Data will shell out US$2.4 billion cash, plus 2.785 million Tech Data shares, to buy the business. Tech Data expects to achieve annual cost savings of approximately US$100m within two years after closing, primarily from efficiencies related to technology platforms, as well as streamlining duplicated functions and corporate expenses. Madison Dearborn to acquire Intermedia

Cloud business applications provider Intermedia has been acquired by Madison Dearborn Partners (MDP), a leading private equity firm based in Chicago, USA. As part of the transaction, Intermedia’s shareholders, led by Oak Hill Capital Partners, will sell their stake in the company to MDP and company management. The partnership with MDP will help accelerate Intermedia’s rapid growth trajectory through increased investment in the company’s channel partner programmes, support experience, new and existing products, vertical industry solutions, and additional acquisitions. Intermedia appoints Martorano as global sales boss

Intermedia, a cloud business applications provider, has appointed Eric Martorano as its new senior VP of worldwide sales, effective September 15th. Martorano comes to Intermedia from Microsoft, where he most recently served as general manager of US partner sales and developed, launched and managed channel partner programmes. Read full story

DevTech, a cloud enablement company, has signed a global distribution agreement with Ingram Micro. The agreement will allow Ingram Micro to distribute vPoint, DevTech’s multi-cloud orchestration solution which aims to simplify the way cloud infrastructures are created, managed, consumed and grown, via the Ingram Micro Cloud platform. Networking vendor D-Link and Internet of Things (IoT) solutions provider Silicon Labs have announced that they are working together to accelerate smart home technology development and deployment. The collaboration brings D-Link’s strength in the design and manufacture of consumer networking devices, its market recognition and its well-established smart home ecosystem, mydlink home, together with Silicon Labs’ deep expertise in developing innovative semiconductors and modules leveraging key connected home and IoT wireless networking technologies such as ZigBee, Thread, Bluetooth low energy and Wi-Fi. Darty boosts margins with Mirakl marketplace

Marketplace platform provider Mirakl reckons that Darty, a leading European electronics retailer, is seeing better visibility in search, greater profit margins, and new category growth after implementing the Mirakl marketplace solution in 2014. According to a new case study published by Forrester Research, Darty attributes its marketplace success to buy in from C-level support and the foresight to start with non-overlapping product categories, dedicate adequate employee resources, and take advantage Mirakl’s marketplace platform versus custom building their own solution. BullGuard bags Dojo Labs

Consumer security company BullGuard has acquired Dojo Labs, an innovator in consumer internet of things (IoT) security. Together, the companies hope to redefine how security is delivered for consumers and small businesses. Terms of the deal were not disclosed. Israel-based Dojo Labs’ offering includes home network security technologies, managed through a mobile app, coupled with a cloud-based platform that utilises proprietary machine learning algorithms to detect and block threats and anomalies.
