ATS names Gallagher as global boss

Philip Gallagher has been named as global president for Avnet Technology Solutions (ATS), one of the two global operating groups in VAD behemoth Avnet. In his new role Gallagher will assume responsibility for the strategic direction, day-to-day operations and performance of the group on a global scale. Gallagher’s appointment will be effective from March 2nd 2009. Read full story

Netbooks support EMEA PC market

The fast-growing market for netbooks helped to nurse the EMEA PC market through a tough fourth quarter in 2008, according to the numbercrunchers at IDC. Total PC unit sales were up just 1.8% year-on-year to 29.13 million units. HP claimed top spot with 21.6% market share, shifting 6.29 million units, with Acer in second place pumping 4.82 million units through the EMEA channel. Read full story

France-based notebook bags and accessories manufacturer Urban Factory is poised and ready to expand outside its home market. The company, which offers a range of mid and high-level products, will use the upcoming DISTREE XXL event in Monaco as the launch pad for an EMEA-wide distributor recruitment drive. Saaspoint goes for Google

Saaspoint, a Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) implementation and consulting outfit, has signed up for Google’s enterprise partner programme. Saaspoint plans to use Google Apps to deliver desktop and mobile applications to enterprise and SMB customers. Avaya names new EMEA distribution boss

Avaya has appointed Thomas Veit as its new distribution director for the EMEA region. In his new role, Veit will report into Jeremy Butt, VP worldwide channels at Avaya. Veit will lead the distribution strategy for Avaya’s products and solutions through business and channel partners in EMEA. Veit joins Avaya from SonicWall where he held the position of senior director for EMEA sales operation and emerging markets. Read full story
