Home audio category worth US$11 billion in 2016

Worldwide demand for home audio devices continues to gather momentum, with the category outperforming the wider consumer electronics (CE) market and on track to finish 2016 at 102 million units shipped and close to US$11 billion in trade value, according to the latest market report from Futuresource Consulting. Monster and Brightstar sign global deal

Headphone and speakers brand Monster has announced a partnership with Brightstar. The deal will see Brightstar become a worldwide purveyor of Monster’s line of audio products and mobile accessories. XYZprinting tops 2016 consumer 3D printer shipments

Worldwide shipments of 3D printers rose 25% year-on-year in the first three quarters of 2016 to hit 217,000 units, according to IT market research company CONTEXT. In total, 96% of units shipped were personal and desktop 3D printers, carrying an average price of just under US$1,000. This represents a 27% year-on-year growth for personal and desktop 3D printers. Taiwan’s XYZprinting remained the global leader in personal and desktop 3D printers, seeing its share grow to 22% for the first three quarters of 2016. Read full story

EMEA distributors identify gaming as a top consumer tech channel growth opportunity for 2017

Gaming products and gaming accessories show strong potential for growth in 2017, according to consumer tech distributors operating in the Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA) region. Early analysis of DISTREE EMEA’s regional consumer tech distributor survey indicates that 42% of distributors view gaming as a top three category in terms of growth potential in 2017. HMD Global is new home of Nokia phones

Nokia has confirmed that the strategic agreement covering branding rights and intellectual property licensing with HMD Global Oy (HMD), originally announced on May 18, 2016 has come into force. HMD has today announced the completion of transactions between HMD, FIH Mobile Limited (a subsidiary of Hon Hai Precision Industries trading as Foxconn Technology Group) and Microsoft, which means that HMD can begin operations as the new home of Nokia phones, under an exclusive global brand licence for the next ten years, excluding Japan. BeyondTrust and Westcon-Comstor expand deal

Security vendor BeyondTrust has joined VAD Westcon-Comstor’s Accelerate programme. With the agreement, BeyondTrust expands it distribution footprint globally. The move underscores growing demand for security solutions that guard against insider threats and data breaches for businesses of all sizes. End-user demand for better security visibility, control and protection have reached new heights, in part because the number of data breaches so far in 2016 has increased nearly 20% compared to last year, according to the Identity Theft Resource Centre. HNA Group completes Ingram Micro acquisition

Ingram Micro and HNA Group today announced that they have completed the previously announced transaction, under which Tianjin Tianhai, a publicly-traded subsidiary of HNA Group, acquired Ingram Micro for US$38.90 per share in an all-cash transaction with an equity value of approximately US$6 billion. "The closing of this transaction represents a significant milestone on Ingram Micro’s path to growing our business and providing a full spectrum of global technology and supply chain services to businesses around the world," said Alain Monié, CEO of Ingram Micro.
