Acquisitive pan-EMEA VAD Nuvias Group has snapped up Siphon Networks, a unified communications (UC) solutions and technology integrator for the channel. The deal will see Nuvias making a significant investment in Siphon to accelerate the integrator’s expansion, both in the UK and across EMEA.

VR hardware market to hit US$50 billion per annum by 2021
Research house Juniper reckons that the global value of the virtual reality (VR) hardware market will hit US$50 billion per annum by 2021, up tenfold from the projected figure of US$5 billion for 2016. The research includes hardware revenues from VR headsets, peripherals and 360-degree cameras. This rapid growth will be driven by widespread adoption of VR by smartphone users, and the high unit prices commanded by headsets for PCs and consoles, according to Juniper. Console VR is expected to account for over 50% of VR hardware revenues, but only make up 27% of shipments.

NASDAQ-quoted Netgear, a provider of networking equipment, reckons that it has set a new bar for the networking industry by introducing the Netgear ProSAFE XS716E 16-port 10-Gigabit Ethernet Web Managed (Plus) Switch to its portfolio of the industry’s first affordable 10-Gigabit Copper (10GBASE-T) switches for small and medium-sized businesses (SMBs) including government agencies, educational facilities, and hospitality sites.

Tech Data to buy Technology Solutions business from Avnet
NASDAQ-quoted global distribution giant Tech Data will stump up US$2.6 billion to acquire the Technology Solutions business from rival distributor Avnet. Tech Data will shell out US$2.4 billion cash, plus 2.785 million Tech Data shares, to buy the business. Tech Data expects to achieve annual cost savings of approximately US$100m within two years after closing, primarily from efficiencies related to technology platforms, as well as streamlining duplicated functions and corporate expenses.

Madison Dearborn to acquire Intermedia
Cloud business applications provider Intermedia has been acquired by Madison Dearborn Partners (MDP), a leading private equity firm based in Chicago, USA. As part of the transaction, Intermedia’s shareholders, led by Oak Hill Capital Partners, will sell their stake in the company to MDP and company management. The partnership with MDP will help accelerate Intermedia’s rapid growth trajectory through increased investment in the company’s channel partner programmes, support experience, new and existing products, vertical industry solutions, and additional acquisitions. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Intermedia appoints Martorano as global sales boss
Intermedia, a cloud business applications provider, has appointed Eric Martorano as its new senior VP of worldwide sales, effective September 15th. Martorano comes to Intermedia from Microsoft, where he most recently served as general manager of US partner sales and developed, launched and managed channel partner programmes.
