Finally and Prism strike EMEA deal

Finally Software, a security product and service provider, has signed an EMEA-wide master reseller agreement with Prism Microsystems. HP bags EDS for US$13.9 billion

HP has reshaped the global IT services landscape with its blockbuster US$13.9 billion agreement to buy EDS. The deal, which is expected to close in the second half of calendar 2008, is expected to more than double HP’s service revenues, which hit US$16.6 billion in full year 2007. Combined, the service businesses of HP and EDS pulled in sales of US$38 billion in 2007, employed some 210,000 employees and worked in more than 80 countries. Read full story

VMware enhances channel programmes

Virtualisation solutions vendor VMware has unveiled a number of enhancements to its channel programme. The changes to the channel scheme include the expansion of the VMware authorised consultant programme, a new alliance affiliate initiative that provides partners with the opportunity to accelerate profitability through joint solution selling, and new programmes designed to capitalise on the market opportunity for VMware virtualisation. Ingram Micro and Minicom seal German deal

Digital signage distribution systems outfit Minicom has inked a strategic alliance with distribution giant Ingram Micro for the German market. The move forms part of Ingram’s plan to position itself as a leader in the booming digital signage market by providing end-to-end solutions from a number of vendors including Minicom, Broadsign and Philips. BlackBerry goes global with Brightpoint

Wireless device distribution behemoth Brightpoint has announced a global master distribution agreement with Research In Motion (RIM) – the maker of BlackBerry smartphones. The two companies are still slightly cagey on the precise terms of the agreement, stating that, ‘Brightpoint may distribute RIM products to various territories globally that may include North America, Latin America, Europe, Middle East and Asia, and Asia-Pacific’. AMD flies Business Class

Components vendor AMD has launched AMD Business Class – an initiative to develop AMD processor-based commercial desktops and notebooks for businesses. The launch of AMD Business Class also brings with it the introduction of AMD’s new line of commercial stable AMD Athlon and AMD Phenom processors. A-brand vendors HP, Dell, Acer, Fujitsu Siemens and Lenovo have jumped on the AMD Business Class bandwagon. Read full story

Ingram Micro plans EMEA restructuring

Global distribution behemoth Ingram Micro is planning to restructure its EMEA operations, with a focus on the regional headquarters. The announcement came as Ingram reported first quarter 2008 worldwide sales of US$8.58 billion – a 4% year-on-year rise. After-tax profits hit US$64.1m – a margin of just 0.75%. Read full story
