EMEA props up global PC market

Worldwide PC shipments in the second quarter of 2008 were up 15.3% year-on-year according to the numbercrunchers at IDC. The Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA) region played its part in driving global growth, helping to offset sluggish growth in the Asia-Pacific region. Read full story

eGain launches EMEA partner portal

Knowledge management software vendor eGain has launched a new reseller portal designed to support its EMEA channel partner programme. Bell gives second quarter guidance

Value-added distributor Bell Microproducts has announced global preliminary sales for the quarter ending June 2008 of between US$960m and US$970m – up some 3% from a year earlier. Sales climbed in Europe and Latin America and in Bell’s North American enterprise group. Currency shifts resulted in a positive impact of US$31m on Bell’s preliminary figures. Read full story

CA has launched a customised partner programme for its internet security products. The programme offers training, certification, financial incentives, customer leads, sales collateral, support and an online demonstration centre. Ironkey ramps up channel numbers

US-based flash drive vendor Ironkey has announced that more than 100 VARs are now signed up for its global channel programme. The vendor has also beefed up the benefits of its partner programme to provide even more comprehensive support to resellers. Maxdata insolvency proceedings begin

Insolvency proceedings have commenced for European hardware player Maxdata. The company filed for insolvency at the end of June 2008 in Essen, Germany. The local court has appointed Dr. Winfrid Andres as preliminary insolvency administrator and one of his first acts has been to transfer all UK sales and services operations to Maxdata’s Benelux subsidiary. Microsoft touts channel-ready hosted services

Software giant Microsoft is making some serious noise around channel-ready services hosted by service providers at its worldwide partner conference. Private label distributors Smarthost and Groupspark are deploying new Micorosft-based services, enabling the reseller channel to expand their portfolio of hosted services and providing greater choices for resellers as they go to market with software plus services. Avaya brings Bayer on board in EMEA

Business communications outfit Avaya has appointed Michael Bayer as president of the vendor’s field operation in EMEA. In his new post Bayer will lead the region’s sales and operations and will work with customers to deliver Avaya solutions across EMEA. Bayer joins Avaya from Motorola, where he was VP and general manager for Motorola EMEA’s enterprise and mobility business, and a member of Motorola’s global steering committee for country management.
