Microsoft beefs up EMEA retail marketing team

Microsoft has recruited former Motorola marketing executive Jeremy Dale as EMEA regional VP of retail sales and marketing for its entertainment and devices division. In his new role, Dale will attempt to expand the reach of Microsoft consumer products and strengthen the brand within EMEA. Dale will report to Microsoft corporate VP Mitch Koch. Read full story

Nortel serves up channel sweeteners

Nortel has whipped the covers off a range of EMEA channel incentive programmes, which the vendor claims will allow partners to boost revenues and profits. These new programmes, launched by Nortel in early 2009, offer channel loyalty rewards, competitive pricing initiatives and marketing support on unified communications and multimedia applications equipment for SMB and enterprise customers. Fujitsu Siemens boosts corporate channel team

Fujitsu Siemens has appointed Hans-Dieter Wysuwa as its new head of corporate channel business in the EMEA region. In his new role, Wysuwa – a senior VP at Fujitsu Siemens – will take over the management of all corporate channels in EMEA for the vendor. Wysuwa was previously managing director Germany where he held responsibility for in-country sales activities. Read full story

Asbis cuts costs for 2009

Emerging markets distributor Asbis has revealed its full year financial figures for 2008. Sales climbed 7.1% year-on-year to US$1.5 billion but after tax profits slipped to US$5.1m – compared to US$18.7m in 2007. Asbis reckons that it remains fundamentally strong and has already started implementing measure to help it navigate through the current economic climate and minimise the negative impact of currency fluctuations. Distributor winners revealed by EMEA Channel Academy

A VIP Vendor Jury selected nine distributor winners at the ‘EMEA Channel Academy: 2009 Awards’ event held in Monaco at Salle des Etoiles earlier this month. Using live electronic voting devices, jury members voted for their preferred candidate in front of a packed audience of hundreds of senior distribution executives from across EMEA during a Gala Dinner. Ingram Micro reports fourth quarter figures

Global distribution giant Ingram Micro saw fourth quarter sales slide13% year-on-year to US$8.68 billion. The company posted a fourth quarter net loss of US$564.3 million including a goodwill impairment charge of US$742.6m. EMEA fourth quarter sales accounted for 34% of global sales, bringing in US$2.95 billion – down 21% year-on-year. Read full story

Magirus picks up EMEA Veeam rights

VAD colossus Magirus has become the first pan-EMEA distributor for virtualisation systems management tools vendor Veeam Software. The deal spans more than 20 countries in EMEA. Effective immediately, Magirus will distribute the entire Veeam software portfolio targeting resellers addressing the growing market for managing and optimising virtualised infrastructures – including back up and replication. Centrix strengthens executive team

Centrix Software has appointed two virtualisation veterans to its team of non-executive directors. Jane Rimmer and Mark Stradling have both joined Centrix bringing with them a wealth of experience from virtualisation vendor giants Citrix Systems and VMware. Rimmer and Stradling will join Centrix in an advisory role as the company looks to grow its sales capability and broaden its routes-to-market. Read full story
