Ingram Micro navigates tough first quarter

Global distribution giant Ingram Micro has reported first quarter 2009 results with sales sliding 21% year-on-year to US$6.75 billion with profits diving 57% to US$27.5m as the tough market conditions started to bite the bottom line. Despite this, Ingram Micro’s cash balance reached a record level and the company maintains that its balance sheet and gross margin remain solid. Read full story

Westcon Group goes global with Cisco

Westcon Group has signed a global distribution deal with Cisco. Westcon reckons that the new extended agreement will enable it to streamline global transactions for channel partners, simplify cross-border deals and increase access to emerging markets including Africa. Westcon Group is the first Cisco global distributor to execute an agreement of this type and breadth. Read full story

Asbis publishes 2008 annual report

Emerging markets distribution powerhouse Asbis has published its annual report for full year 2008. The 120-page document offers a deep insight into the distributor’s structure, regional set-up and business strategy. 2008 sales climbed 7.1% year-on-year to US$1.5 billion but after tax profits slipped to US$5.1m – compared to US$18.7m in 2007. Avaya and Azlan sign EMEA deal

Communications solutions vendor Avaya has signed an EMEA distribution deal with Azlan – Tech Data’s regional VAD unit. HP maps out PartnerOne changes

HP will implement a number of changes to its PartnerOne channel programme as of May 1st 2009. HP claims that the changes will provide partners with a streamlined product offering, easier business processes, as well as more competitive pricing and compensation. Computerlinks announces full year results

EMEA VAD outfit Computerlinks has revealed full year 2008 sales climbed 14.6% year-on-year to US$713.8m. First half sales were up 19.4% year-on-year in 2008 with the second half revenues jumping 10.8%. Gross margin percentage slipped slightly in 2008 to 12.7% due to pricing pressure with full year profits sliding 15.5% to US$12.2m. Read full story

Wick Hill wins with Check Point

Security VAD Wick Hill has picked up an EMEA distributor of the year award from Check Point software. Wick Hill picked up the award at the vendor’s recent annual EMEA customer and partner meeting in Paris.
