ALSO boosts sales and profits in 2017
Distribution giant ALSO boosted its sales 11.4% year-on-year in calendar 2017 to hit €8.9 billion (US$10.99 billion). Net profits for the year jumped 11.2% to €92.5m (US$114.24m) – a net profit margin of 1.04%. The company has raided its proposed dividend by 22.2% on the back of the results. Gustavo Möller-Hergt, CEO of ALSO Holding, said: “This is an excellent result. We have exceeded our goals for 2017, while continuing to drive the transformation of our company forward and consistently implementing our strategy.”

Nuvias appointed EMEA distributor for BlueJeans Network
VAD Nuvias has signed a pan-EMEA distribution agreement with BlueJeans Network, a cloud service to connect desktops, mobile devices and room systems in one video meeting. BlueJeans brings video, audio and web conferencing together with the collaboration tools people use every day. Nuvias will be bundling the BlueJeans’ platform with videoconferencing devices from Polycom to provide solutions which scale from SMEs up to large enterprises.

DISTREE Events has announced preliminary findings from its annual Europe, Middle East & Africa (EMEA) consumer tech distributor survey. The in-depth survey was completed by more than 100 distributors between December 4th 2017 and 9th January 2018. Distributors were asked to assess which product categories represented the best growth potential for their business in calendar 2018. The standout category was Gaming, with 54% of distributors identifying it as a top three product segment for sales growth potential in 2018.

Distribution in 2018 has moved a long way from pick, pack and ship of IT products, and has substantially broadened its offering with a wide range of services, claims a new report from IT Europa focusing on European distributors. The report, for the Global Technology Distribution Council (GTDC), cites several leading distributors who have invested strongly in services, including Arrow ECS, Ingram Micro, Tech Data, Westcon and Central & Eastern Europe’s AB.
