Specialist distributors prepare for DISTREE EMEA

Hundreds of distributors from across the Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA) region are gearing up for next week’s DISTREE EMEA event in Monaco. One distributor preparing to assess potential new vendor partners at DISTREE EMEA is DIES Distribution, a specialist distributor of hardware accessories and video games in Belgium and Luxembourg. ECA: 2013 Awards – VENDOR NOMINATIONS

The full list of vendor nominations for the ‘EMEA Channel Academy: 2013 Awards’ has been published. The awards, taking place for the fifth year in a row, are staged in conjunction with DISTREE EMEA in Monaco. A total of 43 different vendors received official nominations with nine brands nominated in multiple categories. Sony picked up five nominations while Samsung made the short list in four categories. Toshiba was nominated in three categories with Asus, Canon, HP, Logitech, Microsoft and Seagate all nominated for two apiece. Read full story

Iconbit pushes digital lifestyle credentials

Device and accessories vendor Iconbit reckons that time-to-market and the increasing knowledge of consumers are allowing new brands to emerge to challenge the established big player. Iconbit offers a range of media players, tablets, mini PCs, car camcorders and accessories. Kurilo Alexander, marketing and business development director at Iconbit, said: “The main trend we see is the crisis of the ‘big’ brands, unable to develop their solutions at the speed and pace required by changing technologies. Vexia targets international channels

Device vendor Vexia has set its sights on international channel expansion in 2013. Buoyed by its success in the Spanish market, Vexia is attending DISTREE EMEA 2013 later this month to meet the leading volume ICT and consumer electronics (CE) distributors and retailers from across the region. Also-Actebis considers Saphin deal

European distribution giant Also-Actebis continues to mull over a possible deal to acquire a majority stake in Dutch channel conglomerate Saphin Group. Also-Actebis signed a letter of intent back in mid-December 2012 and started negotiations with a view to a possible deal. The Saphin Group has stakes in numerous Dutch IT companies and achieved annual sales of approximately US$1 billion. Read full story

Smartwatch category to grow in 2013

Connectedevice is one of hundreds of ICT and consumer electronics (CE) brands flocking to Monaco next month to meet leading distributors and retail buyers from across the Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA) region. Connectedevice will use its participation at DISTREE EMEA 2013 to build channels for two new products: Cookoo - the connected watch, and FlowerPower by Osungo energy saving mobile chargers. Binetti gets EMEA channel role at Dell

Hardware vendor Dell has named Laurent Binetti as general manager of EMEA channel sales. Most recently he served as general manager for the Dell commercial business in the Southern Europe region. Binetti replaces Emmanuel Mouquet who will become general manager of Dell France from 1st February 2013. Mouquet has overseen sales in Dell’s PartnerDirect programme since its creation and helped it grow to the point where channel now accounts for 50% of the vendor’s sales in EMEA. Read full story
