Smart home trumps wearables in GfK consumer study

The latest GfK research claims that half of people internationally believe smart home technology will make an impact on their lives in the next few years, compared to just a third who say the same for wearables. The study, which covered seven countries, asked consumers to choose which of 11 leading-edge technologies – from 3D printing to virtual reality to Internet of Things (IoT) would have an impact on their lives in the next few years with respondents able to choose as many technologies as they wished. DISTREE announces 2016 calendar of events

UK hardware vendors seek improved channel clarity

Channel data management specialist Zyme’s latest research claims that UK hardware companies will be taking a closer look at their routes to market in 2016, with 67% of respondents stating that they would like to understand more about their channel partners, and channel marketing expenditure. More than two thirds of those interviewed by Zyme felt that effective channel data management would ultimately give them a greater sense of control over their business. Read full story

More pressure to measure channel performance

Channel data management (CDM) specialist Zyme’s latest research shows increased pressure on UK hardware companies to accurately measure channel performance. The report, entitled ‘The UK Channel Data Management Barometer’, shows that a staggering 93% of respondents feel that they are now under pressure from the business and its stakeholders to provide accurate, real time, data on channel performance in order to improve decision making. In parallel, 71% also commented that such stakeholder demands will mean existing ways of managing channel relationships, and setting sales strategies, must change. Read full story

10% of Spanish broadband households own a smartwatch

The latest research from Parks Associates claims that 10% of Spanish broadband households own a smart watch, followed by 8% in the UK, 7% in Germany, and 6% in France. “Form factors such as the smartwatch are creating new opportunities for wearables in the connected home, with home controls and health applications near the top of the list for potential use cases,” said Stuart Sikes, president at Parks Associates. European distribution channel rebounds

The latest European distributor report from research house IT Europa shows that the region’s top 500 distributors recorded combined sales of US$153.75 billion in 2014, up 7.25% year-on-year. The number of staff employed by the top 500 distributors came in at 100,007, according to the report. The numbercrunchers at the research firm reckon that Tech Data was the largest distributor in Europe by revenue. Read full story
