One in two would consider sharing smart home data for cash

A worldwide survey by Intel Security has revealed that 54% of respondents would consider sharing their personal data collected from their smart home with companies in exchange for money. A whopping 70% agreed that companies should give coupons and discounts to customers in return for data about device usage, according to a survey of 9,000 global consumers sponsored by Intel Security. The survey also found that 77% of respondents believe smart homes will be as common in 2025 as smartphones are today, but 66% are also very concerned about smart home data being hacked by cybercriminals. B&O PLAY turns channel data management on with Zyme

Zyme, a market leader in the rapidly growing discipline of channel data management (CDM), has announced that B&O PLAY has signed an agreement to deploy Zyme’s cloud-based CDM solution. The first phase of the initial roll out will be completed by the close of March 2016 but the overall implementation, which will be global, will run until the end of May 2016. Zyme will host an extended workshop on CDM at this month’s DISTREE EMEA channel event, highlighting the agreement with B&O PLAY as a case study. Read full story

Smart home trumps wearables in GfK consumer study

The latest GfK research claims that half of people internationally believe smart home technology will make an impact on their lives in the next few years, compared to just a third who say the same for wearables. The study, which covered seven countries, asked consumers to choose which of 11 leading-edge technologies – from 3D printing to virtual reality to Internet of Things (IoT) would have an impact on their lives in the next few years with respondents able to choose as many technologies as they wished.
